can’t go where i’ve gone before
Went and saw March of the Penguins earlier this evening with friends. Great film, and surprisingly affecting. The Antarctican vistas and cinematography in general were breathtaking… The way life thrives in such an austere environment is incredible. And they didn’t shy away from showing the dangers and inevitable tragedy that accompanies the whole ordeal. It was hard to watch in parts. I should also mention that after watching this movie you will want a baby penguin. No way around it. You’ve been warned.
Also purchased Ivy’s latest, In the Clear. They’re a band that’s in my all-time top five for the simple reason that I like more than about 75% of the music they produce. Very few bands are in such company–the Beatles, George Winston, U2, and Hooverphonic are the only bands/artists that come to mind that can realistically claim the 75% rule. My fascination with Ivy probably stems as much from their near-perfectly conceived sound as from the fact that their lead singer is a very attractive frenchwoman and hints of her accent can be found all over her singing. Well, that and they have the best album covers ever.
ahhh I’m going to see March of the Penguins this week. Paul liked it, and he’s the World’s Biggest Movie Critic, so if you both like it… must be pretty good. Plus, Morgan Freeman has an A+ voice for narration.
Cool :) I’ll be eager to hear your take on it. The narration is really quite unobtrusive and good–all the movie critics who picked on it are just being petty and trying to find something wrong with a uniformly good film.
I may want a baby penguin, but not if I’m going to have to watch it walk in real time across Antarctica, several times.
I don’t know, Matt–maybe I’m too ADD, but I was downright restless during the March of the Penguins. There were some great moments, though. And the babies were adorable…
You’re too ADD :) I was no more restless watching it than I usually am watching films in theaters. I thought the pacing was managed very well.
I already want a baby penguin and I haven’t even seen the movie, yet. It is very rare that I will bother to go see a movie in theatres, but I really want to see this one.
