Elizabeth (while playing piano forte): I do not play this instrument so well as I should wish to, but I always supposed that to be my own fault, because I would not take the trouble of practicing it.
Mr. Darcy: You are perfectly right. You have employed your time much better. No one admitted to the privilege of hearing you can think anything wanting. We neither of us perform to strangers.
Perfect. Flawless. Musical. And now the equivalent from the new movie:
Mr. Darcy: I have not the talent of conversing easily with people I have never met before.
Elizabeth: Perhaps you should practice.
It makes me cringe. In shortening the film from the 6-hour running time of the mini-series to a more palatable 2-and-a-half hour movie time, do they have to remove the best dialogue? And Hollywood-ize the rest of it? Furthermore, everybody just seems too young. Keira Knightley is hugely miscast. I’ll probably still go see it, though, which just sickens me.
I was ill during the preview and my dear brother thought it was simply because they were remaking something I loved and I was having trouble adjusting to the idea. I suppose it is a small consolation to have company in mourning. Sadly, many people will prefer this version and miss the beauty.

On the plus side this looks pretty good, if pretty similar to another movie in terms of plotline…
I know… But then again maybe appreciation of the new version by Austen newbies will be a catalyst for a renewal of popularity of the older version. One can hope, at least.
