Exhausted, even though I got a good amount of sleep last night. Tonight was the youth group’s periodic “fun night,” and we decided to do sort of a multi-game olympiad, with the parents, no less. Most of the chairs were cleared out of the sanctuary and we set up games in there as well as in the foyer. We had chair soccer, the shoe relay, and the spoon and string game (where the team members line up next to one another and have to pull a spoon with a string attached through an article of their clothing as fast as they can, so that all members of a team are strung together in the end). We also had the marshmallow blow, where team members are given points commensurate to how far they can blow a little marshmallow out of their nose, the creamed whistle (where you have to dig a whistle out of a plate of whipped cream and blow it), and my personal brainchild, the rat race–a collection of tables arranged so as to form two juxtaposed mazes, covered with plastic sheeting, and that the contestants had to navigate on their hands and knees blindfolded. I think it was a success. I was helped out with chair soccer, chasing down the ball and tossing in back into the field of play. It was an incredibly active game, and it got vicious at times–the competitive juices were definitely flowing and some of the parents (really even more so than most of the kids) really got into it. But it was fun. And now for bed.

Anybody want to go to the exhibit on the art of flight at the NC Museum of Art tomorrow afternoon? It’s the last day and I have two tickets. We can get Krispy Kreme donuts afterwards downtown or go record shopping at Schoolkids. Anyone?

Thanks :o) It was fun… Until my maze started disintegrating during the latter half of the night. Daniel and I were running around frantically taping the plastic back to the tops of the tables, but it was a losing battle.

Hope your morning is going well :o)

I don’t think we have… I think I have a vague idea of how this is played, but refresh my memory.

Praying for you and your foot today–I hope all goes well :o)

Appropriate that you’d need a plane ticket to see the exhibit on flight… *sigh* But it’s over now.

I can send you a print from the show, though, if you email me your address :o)

Alright. People sit in circle. One person it chosen to be “it”, so to speak. Let’s call this person… A. The A must go to someone in the circle (person B), look them in the eye, and say, “Darling, if you love me, smile.”

B must respond, without cracking a smile or giggling,
with, “Darling, I love you, but I just can’t smile.” We always gave person A three tries to get person B to smile. I think on the second try A could put his/her hands on the B’s shoulder, and on the third try A could sit in B’s lap. If B makes it through A’s three tries without laughing, A must go on and find another person to, um, seduce. If B laughs, B becomes “it.”

I doubt that made any sense. Oh well… It was just the most hilarious game… I remember I always “lost” because when someone came to me I’d automatically bust out laughing.

Ah yes. We’ve played a variation of that game before during icebreaker time on regular meeting weekends. We call it “Nice Kitty.” Same principle–to get another player to smile/laugh, but the “kitty” acts (obviously) like a cat, and the player towards whom their attention is directed has to pat them on the head and say, “Nice kitty,” three times. It’s loads of fun :o)

so you think your exhausted!! I left home at 11am and didn’t get home until 11:30pm… and i was on my feet practically the whole day!! and i think your taking it a bit far to say that the rat race was your brain child… um who found the game? and suggested it? and would have put it up herself if she hadn’t been in charge of the whole thing?

there now thats it off my chest… =) thanks for your help… I do apreciate it… even though you are a bit of an idiot… =)

and you left your tarp and box of string, so I have it whenever you want to get it…

You’re right–the rat race was created on your initiative. I’m glad I got to help develop it, though :o)

I can imagine you were exhausted. You did an incredible job in all respects. I didn’t meet a single person who wasn’t thoroughly enjoying themselves that evening.

I’ll talk to you about retrieving the tarp and string. Hope your Tuesday is pleasant :o)
