The warehouse is a sauna today. The sun beats down incessantly on the pavement outside, but at least there is enough of a breeze to carry away some of the heat. The warehouse, though, being enclosed, is cooking, and the industrial fans are overmatched trying to pump out the block of air that sits thickly between the racks and pallets. I do not envy those not in one of the two air-conditioned offices at either end of the building.
Coffee Theology hums along with a consistent two or three every week besides Diane and myself. This week we finished up the first chapter dealing with the “communicable attributes of God,” or those attributes (as opposed to His eternity or omnipresence or omnipotence) that God shares with us to a greater degree. We read about what the Word has to say concerning His love, His wisdom, His truthfulness, faithfulness, grace and justice, among others. As God is the creator and ultimate standard of these attributes, studying His model of them is to study the very definitions of the attributes themselves, a very worthy pursuit when one seeks to exhibit them to a greater degree in one’s own life. There were many points of application.
I am very eager to co-lead the Truth Project home study with Diane. I have such a passion for teaching this material, especially when I am well-prepared, which we will be.
Question of the day: Do men have an innate need to provide, as in, to better the condition of someone else’s life through the selfless apportioning of their resources? Or is this just the result of some kind of social conditioning? Either way, do you think it is beneficial or detrimental? Or, if you prefer, would you, as a man, be content in a state of relative idleness while your wife/girlfriend worked, even if she welcomed this and was happy to do it? Or, put yet another way, if you won the lottery, would you still work?
I have been looking for a woman who would help me become a stay at home husband for years now. I’ll even change diapers and cook.
