A bit of a sore throat today. I can’t yet tell whether it’s an isolated thing or the beginning of another illness. I hope very much it’s the former. It doesn’t slow me down too much, and the chicken noodle soup at Panera for lunch hit the spot. I should still find some echinacea.
Diane and I are doing very well. Friday evening we ate dinner at a local cafe, then segued over to B&N where we spent the rest of the evening discussing Shel Silverstein, John Ashbery, Robert Creeley and Jack Kerouac (among others). There was a natural exchange, a conversational give and take that just felt…perfect. I spent most of Saturday with her and Luke and her family and had a grand time. I diagnosed her car door difficulty (window regulator broken) and she cooked a delicious chicken parmesan dinner, after which we watched The Village and The Sixth Sense, neither of which I’d seen. The learning curve is still steep, but I’m committed and optimistic.
Had my final stage check (test/exam) in Flight II last Friday. I did most things very well, a few things poorly, but after the debrief this morning feel very good about my aptitude and progress. If the weather holds, a few more practice flights and I’ll have my private pilot license by the end of next week.

sounds like my kind of grand time. panera and b&n is the perfect evening. alone or with someone.
I wrote a paper about the use of the color red in the Sixth Sense…veru interesting stuff. I’m excited about you guys!

I was very much wondering about the symbolism of the red color in the film. I have thought about it much in the aftermath but my initial thought was that it was a kind of “safe color” or perhaps a “secret” color. There was definitely a kind of hiding or concealment about it.
What was the jist of your paper?

Btw, the sixth sense was filmed in philly. my roommates and I re-rented it just so we could pick out parts of our neighborhood. :D

As for your sore throat, Golden Seal is good too… Echinacea is the bomb, but if it’s still sore today then you might want to hunt some down!!

Red is only used to indicate that death is near in the film. Every time you see the color there is either about to be an encounter with the dead or it is indicating that someone is dead. It’s really neat to watch the movie with that in mind. They went to a lot of trouble to make sure that there was absolutely no red in any of the background unless there was death in the scene. It’s neat because it appears a lot behind Bruce Willis…the doorknob he keeps trying to get to work is red.

Yes there is, and finanaces permitting that’s the plan. I get to learn to fly the Super Cub.
It’s not too sore today. I’m on the way up I think, but I’d still like to hunt down some Echinacea.
