odds and ends
1. Today’s my last day here at Design Services, bringing to a close my two years and six months of employment at realistically the best job I’ve ever had. I would be sad, and I certainly was earlier in the week during the lunches my coworkers treated me to, but today I’m just ridiculously stressed out… There’s a mountain of work to file away, pass on, wrap up… It’s so much easier to just get fired.
2. The pin was removed from my hand on Tuesday. I will never again take for granted the privilege and blessing of two functional hands. And the ability to shower without a bag over one of them. My left pinkie is still a little splayed out and most likely always will be to a degree. It doesn’t look unnatural unless you’re looking for it, though.
3. I registered mattsuffern.com yesterday, where I’ll be transferring my online files. For a while, I ruminated on the possibility of getting a more creative domain name, but the one I ended up with is versatile and won’t become obsolete.
4. Susan, at the Gazette lunch yesterday, presented me with one of the best presents I’ve ever received. It’s a sugar bowl (which she and her husband Ed collect) with a homemade glass lid encrusted with various found objects. I’ll take a picture of it when I get home tonight.
5. Still looking for roommates. So far all I’ve gotten has been interest from females and a 32-year-old Australian scammer. I’m going to put up flyers at Wake Forest and in the local hospitals tomorrow, if I have time.

wow, your really moving. I wish I could help. Acutually it pains me that I can’t… but I’m having trouble walking on my two bad ankles, twisted one in Delft and fell on the other yesterday. Please no old lady jokes. Currently siting at my desk trying to elevate my feet which are both wrapped in ace bandages… =D
Hold up a second, did you actually get fired from this job, or did you quit? I must have missed something . . .
As for the roommate situation, it’s comical but at the same time, I’m sorry you’re not getting any good responses. Good luck! I know there’s someone out there to help you out.
Yes, I really am. I remember saying something like 3827 things had to happen correctly and in order for this whole thing to work… Well, I’m on thing #964 and it certainly feels like it. Ugh.

As for the jet lag situation, I wish I was over it! However, I keep waking up around 8 AM and I’m way too tired at 10 PM. Last night I crashed after taking my shower – still in my robe – around 10:30 and completely missed two or three people calling and text messaging me. I have two more days to get over it before recruitment starts!
Maybe the G-boro Craigslist?
Hehe, I’m wishing I got fired too. I feel this weird obligation to work my hardest the last couple weeks and not just skate through. Argh :) Congrats on your last day though, and to moving forward in life.

if you feel the need to procrastinate from your mountain of things to do, take some time to explain to me how i get from registering a domain name to actually getting it to point to where the index.html file is stored. i registered a name one time, got my stuff hosted through a (sketchy?) company, but could never get the name to point to the content. eventually i gave up and a year later the name expired. what a waste of my money!
Well, at least your jetlag is in the right direction :) I hated waking up at 9 a.m. in Europe and feeling like it was 3 a.m. Ugh.
Have posted on there. I got some little Asian widow or something who was overseas… Not a great deal of success, but I’m hopeful.

I used icdsoft.com. Pretty cheap and by all accounts great customer service. I logged in to my user control page and set up an ftp account. After that I just fired up my ftp program and uploaded files. Figured out the subfolder of my webspace the domain name was pointed to–in my case it was a folder called “www”–and uploaded a new index.html file into there.
Sorry you had such a bad experience :/ If you try again and run into snags I can help you troubleshoot.
