morning notes

Published on January 31, 2005

1. Note to self: Take Rain-X on next skiing trip. When the precipitation falling is a mixture of freezing rain, sleet, and snow and progressing down the slopes through it means I have to make regular stops to breathe on and wipe off my goggles and/or glasses, it’s no fun. I think something water-repellent (like Rain-X) on my goggles might have helped, but then, maybe not. Obscured vision on the slopes didn’t dampen the fun of the weekend overall, though–the resort was not crowded at all and the snow quality was stellar, with hardly any ice. Thanks for letting me use your skis, David–they worked great.

2. Finally saw Napoleon Dynamite on the bus on the way home. Fantastic movie, and one of the most emminently quotable (and re-enact-able) I’ve seen in a long time. Probably helped that I saw it with a bunch of folks who were really into the movie as well.

3. I got the cd player for my car over the weekend. I’ll install it tonight, I think. Tunes for the upcoming ski trip to Snowshoe!

4. I have a small headache this morning. Not too pleasant. I think it’s because I had too much fast food this weekend.

Funny thing is, I’ve been reading reviews of it, and it’s pretty universally panned by the top echelon of critics. They inevitably mention the fact that they don’t really think Napoleon is “likeable” in the traditional sense or some junk like that…I have a funny feeling that more of them can identify with Napoleon than they’d care to admit, in terms of their respective high school experiences, and I can say that because I was a pretty big dork/geek in high school too (and still am).

“Welcome to D-Qwon’s dance grooves, are you ready to get your groove on?”
    “Yes.”
“All right then, let’s get started!”

I talked to Truly last night, she said that you’d give me a comprehensive evaluation of the skis. Hope they did well.

    “I’m just kinda T-O’ed”

    Don’t get sucked in:

  6. It’s kind of a matter of we all had that “really odd kid” in high school.

I’ve got your crap in my locker. Come get it, cuz now I don’t have room for my num-chucks.

you know i’m training to be a cage fighter…

The funniest part was with the cow and the school kids. Not exactly quotable, but friggin hilarious. Well, that and when he hit him in the face with the steak. You should hear Kristi and Alyssa goin at it. Scary how good they are.

“Ever taken it on any sweet jumps?”

    Gotta love it… ;-P

you have the worst reflexes of all time!

“You got like three feet of air that time.”

I really need to be less obsessed with this movie.

  9. _fivestars says:

why don’t you go eat a decroded piece of crap?

“She said she doesn’t want you here when she gets back because you’ve been ruining everybody’s lives and eating all our steak.”

Oh mannnn. I’m so glad you liked it!

The skis did very well. Easy turn in, great stability over different surfaces. One of my last runs of the day was down the Turkey Chute (steep, moguled black diamond) and the skis performed great. They were very easy to rotate at the edges of the slope.

And thanks for the link–it’s been passed around the office (we’re all fans).

    hahaha

“Hey Deb, can you take a photo of me on the horse real quick?”
    “Sure.”
    “Thanks.”

That was hilarious, but I’d have to disagree about it being the funniest part of the movie. The slapstick stuff was great, but it was the dialogue and its delivery that made the film, I think :)

I think you should take the XTerra off a sweet jump.

I think you’re right in the academic and technical aspect of the film…but the cow thing was the only part that actually made me laugh out loud. As a whole, the film was very amusing…but the rest of it wasn’t exactly the “laugh out loud” kind of funny.

Then again, to get me to laugh usually means something extremely bizarre and unexpected has to happen that i dont see coming. Even then i may or may not laugh…

    Ok, but *i’m* wearing a cup. ;-P

tina, you fat lard, come get some DINNER!… tina, eat. food. eat the FOOD!

Hahahahah you saw the amazing wedding part?

“You know, there’s like a butt-load of gangs at this school. This one gang kept wanting me to join because I’m pretty good with a bowstaff.”

Man, I miss my Napoleon voicemail.

  15. admin says:

    lol

Yes, of course I saw the wedding bit :)

“We met in a chatroom, now our love can fully bloom… Sure the world wide web is great, but you, you make me salivate… I love technology, but not as much as you, you see… But I STILL love technology…”
