I wish I had stories to tell.
I wish I were comfortable in larger groups.
I wish I could hold peoples’ attention for longer than 30 seconds.
I wish I didn’t bumble around when I talk in groups.
I wish people were comfortable around me.
I wish I knew how to act around women.
I wish I were spontaneously funny.
Sometimes I feel so inept. Artless. Clueless. Bumbling. Misguided.
Sometimes I wish I weren’t me.
I shouldn’t compare myself. The grass is always greener, etc… But when somone can walk into the office and hold the attention of the entire female staff for half an hour, who still aren’t comfortable around me after 9 months, it’s hard not to feel socially inadequate.
It’s just a transient thing. Don’t mind me.

*hug*
its just a transient thing?
I think that might be the problem.
maybe you just aren’t looking at your surroundings as if they could ever be permanent?
also, the only way to help yourself to feel more comfortable in large groups is to put yourself in large group situations more often. but anyways, most people don’t feel comfortable in large groups of people they don’t know (I certainly don’t, and I’m a big social butterfly)

I gave up on ALL of those already. Booyah!
Seriously though, I think you already have the right idea. Just be happy with who you are, or so they say.
aw, babe. it’s ok. try thinking about the thing you like about you. i like talking to you, and i like reading what you write. you definitely are a kind soul.
Well…the feeling was the transient thing, not me. But then again I don’t consider myself to be very firmly fixed here anyway.
Being in group situations more would help; you’re right. I think I lot of it has to do with my aversion to small talk, too, which is something I need to get over, because it’s really how you establish the candence and tone of the conversation to begin with. I mean, small talk is how the rest of the world relates… Sheesh.
Thank you Karin. Means a lot to hear you say that…
I’m better today :o)
my issue is mainly that I hate to waste time/effort on people who won’t ever return the same for me… oy, am I still up?
