As soon as I picked up Rebekah’s candle to bring it in here, the wick disintegrated in two, and sunk into the pool of wax. *sigh* It was wonderful while it lasted–a homemade coffee bean candle in a grey mug, quite cozy.
Merry belated Christmas. Now for my fourth (!) annual update…
It was the first time I hadn’t spent the night before at home; in other words, I stayed at the apartment until Christmas morning, then drove over at 8:30 or so… Everyone was already up of course–especially David, who was very up and excited, and had already staked out his spot in front of the tree for the distribution of the gifts. I received a funky-looking clock for the wall, a nice set of flare nut wrenches (tools), a dual 500W halogen work lamp w/tripod, bunches of clothes (a good thing), a set of big bowls, several utensils for the apartment, a George Foreman grill, two tickets to the flight exhibit at the NCMA, Zooropa, Pop, the Foo Fighters’ The Colour and the Shape, and a Norah Jones cd. I was very happy and grateful. I told my relatives the fact that I have an apartment now must making gift-giving a bit easier… They agreed. Living in a bachelor pad means we don’t have quite a few amenities that most of you might take for granted. We do have a plunger, though (inside joke; ask Donald).
Paul and David came over later on and we watched The Boondock Saints, and while the movie has great music, I can’t vouch for the quality of the rest of it, except to say that it is somewhat thought-provoking about motivations and reasons for extreme acts. Great nuggets of completely over-the-top acting, too. Gary Oldman would feel right at home in this film. Oh yeah, and the f-word and its variants were used 246 times throughout the movie (courtesy imdb.com). I learned some new ones.
ya learn something new everyday…
actually, a chinese friend and were discussing at dinner tonight that in English you essentially have to use the f-word when cussing, as we have a very limited insult base (so unlike our witty french insults, non?) as Chinese can use so many lovely different varients… I just felt so uneducated. I evidently have a lot more language study to do than I thought ;)
And I’d be interested in discussing the norah jones cd when you have listened to it thoroughly.
Eh, I wasn’t too keen on Boondock Saints either. You can only hear the f-word so many times in a 110 minute span before you feel the need to watch a Disney cartoon.

ah! a george foreman grill! thanks for writing about that because i’m making a list of everything i need for my apartment and that’s one thing i was forgetting. everybody needs a george foreman grill. :) anyway, sounds like you got some good stuff. i’m glad you had a nice christmas. :)
From what I hear it’s pretty intuitive to use… But you’d be surprised the number of allegedly “simple” dishes I’ve managed to botch one way or another. Glad I could help you make your apartment list. What else is on it?

The Norah Jones cd is a bit counterintuitive when it comes to giving it a thorough listen, since it tends to fall under the category of “easy listening” and thus typically tuned out as (quite pleasant) background or mood music. But once I have a car with a cd player again I’m sure I’ll get into the songs.
