little earthquakes (literally)
I hadn’t felt an earthquake before until just a few minutes ago…then the buildling started quivering slightly like an enormous truck was passing outside, but without the noise–just a quiet but ubiquitous shaking. Turns out we were feeling the tremors from a 4.5 magnitude earthquake whose epicenter was just outside Richmond, VA. It was quite a peculiar sensation.

my mom told me about that, but she said she didn’t feel anything. what time did it happen at, approximately?

You would have missed it if you were up walking around, I think, or maybe even in a solidly-constructed building. But UNC Design Services is basically located in a glorified shack, so we feel everything…
Very close to 4 p.m. (which I guess would be 3 p.m. your time). As mentioned, if she was doing anything but sitting still she probably wouldn’t have felt it…
i was in the computer lab of the new union, busily working on a paper. guess that’s why i missed it…
We only get hurricanes and tornadoes. I’m jealous.
Aw. Don’t be–it wasn’t really that exciting. Distracting and diverting in the sense that it pried everybody out of their respective offices for a few minutes, but otherwise quite anticlimactic. You could actually reproduce the same effect yourself if you were to sit at the kitchen table and have a generously-proportioned relative jump up and down behind you.
Come to think of it, that’d be even more intense than what I experienced. Yep.
