well the sun rose with so many colors
it nearly broke my heart
it worked me over like a work of art
and I was a part of all that

I’ve found something special. There’s background static on the recording. I close my eyes as her voice trembles with emotion, the lyrics as tautly strung as the strings on her guitar. These songs are like coming home, breathing the welcome scent as soon as I cross the threshold and see the log in the fireplace. And I listened, and I felt the kinship… It’s been a while since I’ve been bowled over by a song, or three or four.

It’s been a quiet, soft night, the kind you press your fingertips into and it gives way slightly, only to rebound. I breathed in the car on the way home and felt it. My hands moved slowly, my eyes blinked, and I thought, and thought… Just to think. Nothing deep, just existing, my mind moving.
