I can’t find a recipe that I like! Do you have one that is good?? One time I used chunky peanut butter and my waffle maker freaked out, so don’t take that route if you haven’t already.
I meant PB waffles in the least complicated sense–just spreading peanut butter over premade, toasted waffles. My parents have a waffle-maker, though. I’ll ask them about it. And it was difficult in the sense that PB waffles are painfully (at least for the moment) associated with other memories.
Ah, memories by food association. That happens with lots of things for me: music, scent, clothes. I’ve given away cd’s and clothes because of it, but fragrance is hard to escape. My own made-up PB waffle recipe just consists of throwing a couple of tablespoons of Skippy into the batter. It’s good, but it messes with the consistency and sticks to my waffle maker. You sort of have to skip the syrup and use cool whip or butter instead.
I completely identify with the memories-by-association comment. The diversity of sources by which our memories can be triggered is amazing–and it can surprise you.
Have you tried looking online for a good recipe that works? I’m sure you could find something.
Funny example of a memory trigger:
It rained recently, and smelled strongly of mud. I was reminded of an ex, because he was a bmx/dirt jumper. I’d sometimes watch him ride, and one time it rained while we were in the woods. The jumps were new and recently built, and everything smelled like mud, including him. I had to sniff my sweater while driving in my car to escape the flood of memories.
It never occurred to me to actually look for a recipe. I thought making PB waffles was just another weirdo thing that I do. It’s a good idea though!
Well, it never occurred to me to sniff something else in order to escape the onrush of memories… I just ride them out. That’s a good idea, though, if the memories that are brought back are especially unpleasant ones.
Let me know if you find a good recipe. I’d like to invest in a wafflemaker at some point in the future (after I buy that doughnut-maker :o)
Wow, you must REALLY like peanut butter on your waffles if you’re willing to endure the onslaught of negative memories. In that situation, even the *thought* of making or eating them would disturb me.
Waffles are quite the art form, you better practice up before attempting a peanut butter recipe! Donut makers (or anything with large vats of fat) frighten me.
I do like peanut butter waffles…a lot. I figure the unpleasant memories are worth facing so, if I make enough PB waffles, the memories and the waffles will be separated from one another. Just a theory, though. I’m not sure how many waffles it will take. I’ll let you know how it works out.
I wasn’t speaking of the deep-fry doughnut makers… My parents used to have (before it up and died on us) a little cake-doughnut maker, kind of like a waffle maker with the two irons, but the batter was different. That’s what I want.
Hm. Does that mean I should go and swim in a mud puddle next time the opportunity arises? Become a mud wrestler? I usually like rainstorms and such. You are probably right, it time memories and associations do become less strong. Especially if you confront them daily. It’s the ones you can’t prepare for that are dangerous. Like mud.
Cake doughnuts are yummy. I want a doughnut, darn it. Guess I’ll have to settle for crasins.
Mud is indeed unpredictable. Not to trivialize your association or anything, but I’ve found myself caught off guard by it many times…
I’m sorry you only have craisins. If it’s any consolation, all I have are triscuits. They don’t have any unpleasant memories associated with them, though, so it’s all good.
I like crasins, they just don’t go so hot with coffee. Triscuts are good with cheese. Lucky for me, I’ve got an early lunch meeting today. I’m thinking WAY too much about food this morning!
I have no associations with my office, so working is always a good thing. Coffee, however, is a diuretic. Uh, probably really random of me. Pardon.
Randomness is a good thing. No pardon necessary, at all. Triscuits are good with cheese, but I am sadly cheeseless this morning (hmm… That’d be a good name for a band, wouldn’t it? Sadly Cheeseless. Or at least a nom de plume).
Have a good lunch meeting. I’m off to lunch myself. You are on my friends list, as well.
Thanks! It should be swell, first ‘lunch date’ with the CEO and some coworkers. Perhaps I’ll be entertained or enlightened. I only hope we don’t go to a greasy spoon or a burger joint. Ew.
Sadly Cheeseless would probably be a really good satirical bubble-gum rock band. Or a really bad one!
Yeah, you *will* discover exactly how random I can be, should you choose to actually read some of my entries. Be warned!
just thought i’d help out. this recipe is from the recipe book that came with my waffle maker :)
1 cup all purpous flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 Tbsp. melted butter or veggie oil
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 cup milk
1 egg, seperated
1/2 tsp. vanilla
sift dry ingredients together in a bowl.
process peanut butter, egg yolk, milk, vanilla and butter together in a blender. add milk mixture to dry ingredients and beat until well blended.
pour about 1/2 cup of batter onto waffle mold.
makes about 6 waffles.
hope that’s what you need. :)
i also have recipes for chocolate waffles, whole wheat banana nut, shortbread, yeast, crisp, traditional and basic waffles… :)
