Well. This may be the beginning of the end of my long spell of singleness. She’s beautiful and intelligent and aware and mature and has her priorities straight in life and we had the best conversation last night I’ve had in as long as I can remember, and we only talked for about an hour. I walked around on the front porch in the cool, late evening as we chatted. It was just breezy enough and the moon shone through the naked branches of the front yard’s oak tree as I listened to her wonderful voice on the other end of the line. Perfect.
It still scares the tar out of me, though to a lesser degree than it did last week pre-date. This weekend will be a bit of a family audition as I’ve been invited to the house, so she’s certainly not easing the apprehension any. But so far it’s gone better than I could have ever hoped. Late last week I told myself this could either be a perfect fit or a big mistake, and so far it has all the earmarks of the former, much to my relief.

She’s the single mother of a wonderful two-year-old named Luke. I have absolutely zero experience with kids that age, or I didn’t before last Saturday. He was perfectly well-behaved for the three hours we were together, sweet, friendly and affectionate, and she herself commented the next day, much to my amazement, that I was “really great” with Luke and that she’s never let any previous dates or interests interact with him, much less on a first date, but still…
I’m so overwhelmed right now. I like both of them very much but the learning curve that’s associated with the possibilities is just daunting.
yeah, i can see how that would be strange. but if anyone can do it, you can, matthew. keep us posted. ;)

Yeah I can’t wait for you guys to meet her. I know about Luke…I was (and am) quite honored. And yeah–I’m pretty level-headed in most circumstances. But this is good. Very good.

Yes, I met her in my Sunday school class and she started attending and investing in my Coffee Theology group. You might say we bonded over theology (along with a mutual love of other deep subjects).
