What a confidence-booster. I flew today for a little over an hour and found that I had hardly forgotten anything since the last time I was up in the air, a month ago. My instructor, Mr. Parrish, is a little chattier than Mr. Hahn was, but that’s not a bad thing at all since a chatty instructor is usually a relaxed instructor, and when they’re relaxed it’s usually a sign that all is well. We flew around the practice area for a bit, did a couple of stalls, ground reference maneuvers and he pulled the engine on me. I did everything to his satisfaction. He said that if it had been my private pilot checkride the examiner would have been on the fence about whether to pass me, a good sign considering I have several months of practice before that occurs. In short, it felt great.

My first cross-country (XC) flight will be Wednesday morning. We’ll fly down to Anson County airport (just north of the SC border), up and around Charlotte airspace to Hickory, and then back to Sugar Valley. Rick’s flight block with Mr. Parrish is immediately after mine, so the days when Rick flies his XC I’ll be doing solo work (the XC takes essentially the whole morning). I’ll try to sneak a few aerial photos during my next solo. Probably Friday.

Maybe flying a plane is like riding a bike? Sorta… Ha! Never mind, congrats on not forgetting anything over the break! : )

Wow, cross-country… soon* you’ll be ready for transatlantic flights!

*soon is as relative as it needs to be to include all the training it takes to get that far… : )

i cannot even imagine how fun it would be to fly your own little plane.

Thanks :) Transatlantic…yeah. I think maybe I would need a bigger plane? And hijacking is so out these days…

It is quite fun. To date I haven’t yet figured out whether the enjoyment is derived more from the satisfaction of overcoming a challenge (learning to fly) or from the act of flying itself. I hope as my training progresses it will be more of the latter. That’s a more enduring kind of enjoyment.

I have a friend with a couple of jets… I bet we could get away with hijacking one of those as long as it’s not a race weekend! : D

No cross-country today. Too windy (20 mph gusting to 35).

    *sigh*
