la nouvelle maison
My parents and I finally bought a house in Winston-Salem today. Well, technically it’s under contract and we close in about a month, but the process has begun. Pictures here. The larger ones I took myself and the smaller ones are off the website. More pictures will come later, I suppose. I’d like to put a table out on that front porch. It’d be a great outside dining area when it gets a little cooler in the fall. No garage, and a pitifully small driveway (especially for myself and two roommates), but I’ll manage. Carport, perhaps?
I feel absolutely useless with this cast on my left hand. Useless. A rubber exhaust hanger broke on my car a few days ago, and after only today discovering the source of the offending rattling it caused, I couldn’t even fix the thing without driving home and putting the floor jack underneath the muffler canister before maneuvering everything back into place. And even then I had to tie a bag over my left hand to keep it from getting too dirty. Useless. I’m going to be a pretty grumpy old man if I lose a substantial part of my mobility as I get older, I can tell…

I’m so excited for you about the new house! I love it! It looks so nice. :-) I’ve never househunted before but I can’t wait to.
awesome. i love the floors and the alcoves by the door. and your fireplace. those kinds of quaint details rock my socks.
but all that grass….
i think i’d get a tractor, diss it, and strew wildflower seeds. just so i didn’t have to mow.
I’m surprised you dig the alcoves by the door. They just seem a little fussy (albeit convenient) to me, and I always imagined your tastes as more functional, more Bauhaus.
I have no issues with mowing. To me it’s the Western equivalent of raking pebbles in a Japanese rock garden–a token, seemingly menial engagement of the body that brings the mind into focus. Quite enjoyable.
It’s exciting and frustrating at the same time :) One thing I can say is that it really helps to have the advice of someone who’s been there before. And a good realtor. Those two things make a big difference.
Thankfully my husband has been through it before when he bought our house 3 years ago, and he thinks his realtor is great. His aunt is a realtor out of state and she reccommended him. That’s the way to go, I would think.
Is that a huge doggie door? Call me paranoid, but i’m paranoid about those things. Not secure at all. Nuh-uh. Lock and bar it…or something. Otherwise the house looks real nice with enough grass to play on, but doesnt take all day to mow. And i agree about the mowing/zen thing. Same here. Along with washing cars.
Poor guy…he’s incapacitated. No kart driving for you on saturday, then? Hm…probably no volleyball as well, eh? ;P
I agree with you about the doggie door. I don’t plan on owner a dog that big, so it’s definitely going to go. Fortunately there’s a locking storm door on the other side, but that’s small comfort…
