it’s the best thing / she’s ever had
Saw Lost in Translation last night. Hadn’t seen it before. Need to buy it.
I don’t belong here. I do not belong here. It’s not that this place is foreign; it’s not, but the love that people feel for this place (if they can ever feel love for it as they know it), the contentedness that radiates from every sleepy-eyed neighborhood house as I jog past the front yard at 11:30… That’s what’s alien to me. And I envy them. I really do. Why the hell did I have to grow up overseas? Why was I mostly alone during the last two and half years, leaving nothing to distract me from absorbing the sights, the tastes, the smells…? I’m going crazy. By tiny increments. When is this going to stop? Will it stop? I don’t even know what to ask anymore.
Good film.

I love Lost in Translation! I was really excited after the first time I saw it and I got my extended family to rent it when we visited Jacksonville. Most of them didn’t get it at all and they thought it was the most boring movie they had ever seen. I think I could watch it a million times.
Restlessness and need for adventure…you are’nt the only one who feels that I assure you. My little glimpse outside the U.S. when I went to Haiti left me with a thirst for adventure and anything different than the monotonous daily goings on of Rocky Mount. Even living in Raleigh is so much different than here and sometimes I wish I could just hop a plane and go live somewhere that feels more real. I can’t imagine how it must be to have lived somewhere long enough to really belong and fall completely in love with it and then come back. I hope you have lots of new distractions learning how to fly and especially after.
People who find that movie boring are people to whom I just can’t relate. I can understand dislike of the movie–that’s just a matter of differing tastes–but boring? People have no concept of character-driven film or any means of character development besides outright dialogue or blatant symbolism… *sigh* If you can’t tell I’m a little bitter about it :)

I’ve never seen the movie, so I won’t cast my vote, but I’m sure if Arnold Schwarzenegger was in it, it’d be an amazing movie. No movie without Arnold in it can be that great. Eraser: Good movie. Conan the Barbarian: Good movie. Predator: Great movie. I guess I’m a bit nostalgic and a lot sarcastic, because I’m in a hotel, but not with my dad eating Double Stuf Oreos and watching Arnold. So far I’ve only watched Arlington Road…by myself…at night…with whistling wind. Thanks a lot Rachel :)
We can watch Lost in Translation sometime…or maybe we can watch one of Arnold’s fine works of art such as : Jingle All the Way, Around the World In 80 Days, or Red Sonja. Clearly he is the greatest actor alive as demonstrated by these cinematic masterpieces.
