keep moving
After being here for about a month and setting up the house and paying for school… money’s finally starting to get a little tight. Doesn’t help that money management and the perils of bad credit and consumer debt are the lecture topics of the last two “Student Life Seminars” I’ve been to (my token one-credit-hour course at PBC). Not that I have any debt, but being lectured to about financial doom and gloom, while occasionally necessary, never sits well afterward. And really, how hard is it to find a decent part-time job? Are people looking at my application/resume and rejecting me out of hat because I’m overqualified or something? I’ve applied at about 8-10 places, made callbacks, talked to managers… Nothing yet. It’s ridiculous. Am I that unemployable? Does finding a job really depend that much on who you know and your personal connections?
Anyway. Prayers appreciated about that. I really don’t need that stress on top of the stress of the first year flight student’s learning curve.

i’m sorry you’re having job troubles. guess you know i’ve been struggling with that too for a while. i’ve been asking myself the same question about connections. i also think it has a lot to do with selling yourself (well, in the design world). not exactly a strength of mine!
i wish companies would hire based on a good work ethic + good attitude + skill, but all these other things seem to get in the way.
i’ll be praying for you. i can’t imagine juggling that with flight school. it’s tough work!
i think i should make t-shirts for both of you that read “i’m fabulous! i’m your uncle’s friend! graphic design is my forte!” although maybe one of you should make it, ’cause then it would probably look a lot better.

Yeah it is strange. I don’t get as much of that thrilling “me vs. the world” feeling as I was anticipating. In reality it’s just all familiar and tedious, with just enough uncertainly to be stressful but not exciting.

Thank you Erica :) I know what you mean about selling yourself. It’s my absolute least favorite part of job hunting… After a few cold calls I have to talk to a friend or something just to decompress for a few minutes before plunging back in. I hate hate hate it.
I can’t really complain all that much, though, since I got my last job (the one at UNC) with a few church friend connections…
I just want one that says, “I’m your uncle’s friend!” and nothing else. That would be awesome.
