Washed and waxed the car yesterday. I will say there are few things sexier to the touch than properly waxed sheetmetal. There’s really no other way to put it. It’s just…perfect.
First flight block tomorrow at 9:30! w00t.

On the one hand I’m going “ACK! And there’s a couple hundred screaming people going ‘DAH! BAD LANDING! WE’RE GONNA DIE!’ behind those poor guys.”
I still marvel at the fact that we can get something that friggin’ huge up in the air and flying.

They’re prototypes. There are only two planes in that video (777 and 747SP) and they’re both undergoing testing flights out at Mojave, most likely. So there’s nobody in the planes except the pilots and a lot of testing gear. Nobody to freak out :)
And agreed. The fact that we can effect that amount of precise control on something weighing many thousands of pounds in a descent is pretty amazing.

those pilots landing is quite impressive. my hats off to piloting a 660,000 pound aircraft (if at max capacity and the 777) across those crosswinds and landing it safely. dang good piloting. Thanks for the great clips, Matt.

Wow. Now that’s impressive. I had no idea you could even do that with one of those things. The 777 is what we took over to Japan. Nice plane, but i still wanna ride in a 747 just because of the impression it made on me as a kid. I mean 2 stories?!? What kind of craziness is that??? (Of course watching the movie AirForce One probably has something to do with my sense of awe…makes the plane seem absolutely humongous on the inside, even though i know that’s not the case). The 777 also has two decks, but the bottom one is a sort of ‘crews quarters’ where they go to get some sleep and stuff.

The 747 will always be the most iconic airliner, even if the A380 is bigger. Just doesn’t have the same class and allure the first jumbo does. Have you even flown on one? Or just admired them from a distance?
I still haven’t flown on a 777, and I want to. Just to be able to experience the engine power firsthand on takeoff. I mean…110,000 lbs of thrust. Each. What’s not to love about that?
