plan 9
Well. After the little bout of optimism expressed in the last post, which I’m sure is fairly common among my fellow students in the program, we all got the tar scared out of us about an hour ago.
During the first half of the two-part “Aviation Seminar” that inaugurates the beginning of each year here at PBC (the second session is tomorrow morning at the airport), the president of Mission Safety International came and gave a presentation. He shared many examples of pilots, vastly experienced and otherwise, who used poor judgement, allowed problems to escalate, overlooked things or just made simple mistakes that resulted in anywhere from repairable damage to the aircraft to total loss of life. There were many photos in a powerpoint presentation which accompanied his talk. None of them were easy to look at, some of them especially graphic. Of course his intent wasn’t necessarily to scare the everliving snot out of us (although that would be inevitable, really), but to underline, italicize, bold and otherwise drill into us the important of safety and the very, very small (or nonexistent) margin of error that will be present in a lot of what we’ll do. I can say he certainly made his point. I can say that. But holy cow. I can’t imagine sitting through that presentation with a significant other (as several students did). That would be one long drive home en route to a heavy discussion about life goals and whatnot, that I know.
I hope to get pictures of the airport and the planes tomorrow morning.

i feel this is an appropriate response
Wow.
also: do you have class everyday?
Most every day. Ground school is MWF, early morning, and I’m hoping to get scheduled for flight blocks that are early morning TH, but that’s still up in the air (ha!).
Also I lost my cell phone this evening. I hope I get less forgetful over the course of the semester…
