la tondeuse à gazon
1. I want to find a more liberally-inclined talk radio station in the area, an Air America affiliate or something. I listen to Rush over my lunch break and I feel lopsided in terms of the punditry I’m exposed to. I listen to NPR driving to and from work, but that doesn’t entirely cancel out the conservative spin I’m privy to most days.
2. As of yesterday I have a custom-made splint on my left hand, aiding mobility (specifically typing and driving stick) greatly. It’s lighter, more conformal, and best of all it’s removable, which means I can go running again, my favorite thing, with no worries about the bandage getting dirty and smelly. Still have to do the plastic-bag-over-the-hand routine when taking a shower, by I’m pretty good at that by now.
3. Hung out with the home group folks last night for the first time in a while. Really enjoyed it. We talked about directions for the group next year and what, if anything in particular, we’d like to study. We talked about other Vintage 21 (the church the home group is affiliated with) home groups and how a lot of them that members of our group have experience with have difficulty sometimes making the transition from purely social interaction to applying themselves collectively to studying Scripture or discussing an issue or what-have-you. The point was then well made that our group has the reverse problem–we have trouble interacting on a purely social level sometimes (not always), but discussing and wrestling in depth with the topic for the night has never been a challenge. The recent camping trip in particular illustrated this–I thought there’d be a lot more interaction around the campfire and the day before than there was. Not to say it wasn’t great fun–it was–but it was different than expected on some levels.
Regardless, I’m really going to miss everyone when I move to Winston. They’ve been the closest thing I’ve had to a group for the majority of the past year.
4. Do you ever wonder whether it’s your destiny in life to remain single? Or for you guys out there, as Hao so eloquently put it last night, a member of the “Bachelor ’til the Rapture” club? I’ve wondered it lately. I think about my desires and motivations, and certainly they’re not all in the green and certainly God can alter what He wills, but the idea of having a family, or even marrying someone, seems very distant these days. I don’t know that I could attach a particular non-neutral emotion to it like longing or hope or despair… “distant” is about the best I can do. Most of the time I don’t even give it a second thought.

DO you get Boortz? http://www.boortz.com He’s Libertarian. =P
I’ll reply to number 4 because that’s the one I like the best :)
Of course, this is coming from a woman who has been very dependent in her life, so it’s totally different, but I don’t know if it will shed any light. Or I just like rambling :)
I didn’t have my first boyfriend until I was 16. Before then, I was upset that I didn’t have one because all of my classmates had been in “couples” since we were 13 or so. Of course, I realized when I was 16 that God started me out at a pretty good age for my first SO.
I’m dating boyfriend number four right now, and I know that he’s the one I’ll spend the rest of my life with. He knows it, too; we’ve talked and it kinda hit us in January that this relationship was permanent. Before then, though, I went through many times where I asked God if I had to settle for less-than-perfect if I wanted to get married; I felt like the perfect relationship just wasn’t going to happen for me. However, this fairy-tale relationship totally caught me by surprise.
Of course, I’ve been told all my life that I will be married by 25, I’m a perfect wife, a perfect mother, etc. Every guy I have dated has seriously talked about marrying me; even guys that I never actually dated want(ed) to marry me. There’s one right now who would drop anything and everyone to marry me tomorrow if I said something.
The desires of our hearts change, and of course God’s got that under control. Did you want to be married at a time? Do you think you could serve the Lord best by being single? Do you think that you’re supposed to be single the rest of your life?
Interesting topics. And now I must end my session here at the internet cafe :)
too lame/tired to be wordy
1. LOL @ politics.
2. Cool man. Take pics.
4. Yes. Daily. My bff and I talked about this last night… it was simultaneously illuminating and depressing.
Thumbed through his website… He seems to be pro-choice, but other than that we agree by and large. Good stuff. I’ll have to find a station ’round here that carries him.
Well, I, too, am pro-choice, as I don’t think the government has any bid-niz telling me what to do with my body.
On the other hand, that partial-birth stuff is just revolting, and I don’t think there should be DOCTORS who morally could do such a thing. Besides, it’s not like the dumb ‘ho’ didn’t have 8 months to figure it out.
Not to get into a debate or anything. ;P
/es/\\e
I agree that the government has NO biz telling anyone what to do with their body… but the government does have the responsibility to protect it’s citizens from death… and if the “choice” is to end a life… then I say the government has every right to be involved… even though for us pro-life’ers the involvement of the government has meant that millions of human beings who should have been a part of my generation were never allowed to draw a single breath… due to the involvement of the government.
How can partial birth abortion disgust you and the millions of missing people who where aborted not? Even if the case is rape or teen pregnancy… does not that baby deserve a chance? Who is that mother to say that they don’t?
Sorry… I feel strongly on this issue… you can’t just post something about abortion and not expect a debate…
hey matt =) sorry for jummping in…
:) I don’t really want this to turn into a knock-down-drag-out debate, ’cause I’m sure we could all go there. I don’t agree with your position, but I respect your right to have it.
Bottom line for me: If someone wants to convince me that abortion is okay, they’re going to have to convince me that a being with a totally different DNA coding (traditionally the strict definition of a “separate life”) is just another part of the woman’s body. Do that, and you’ve got another pro-choice advocate.
Re: /es/\\e
haha
No worries–I know you feel as strongly about this issue as I do (or even more so).
Did you want to be married at a time? Do you think you could serve the Lord best by being single? Do you think that you’re supposed to be single the rest of your life?
I do want to be married at some point… Romantic interests are utterly absent at the moment, and circumstances impinge upon attitudes. On other hand, I suppose the adage is that you’ll find when you’re not looking, so who knows.
I’ve committed myself to a path through life that’s pretty uncertain, financially, situationally, any number of circumstantial factors. I have a hard time imagining that a woman would want to make the sacrifices necessary to join her life to mine. Sacrifices in my life towards her I can readily accept (to a point), but I have a hard time getting my mind around the other way. But it’s going on three years since I’ve been in any semblance of a relationship, so I’ve forgotten what it feels like and how I thought when I was in the thick of it.
And it wouldn’t be the end of the world if I were to remain single. Sometimes I just wish I knew so I could adjust my thinking accordingly. But in the end I suppose it’s a good way of being open to whichever direction God leads my life.

“How can partial birth abortion disgust you and the millions of missing people who where aborted not?”
Because in Partial Birth, the baby could live. I don’t believe a group of cells to be “alive.”
Most measure death when the brain and heart functions cease. I measure life the same way.
I’d go into it more, but I’m gonna clutter Matt’s LJ.
MATT! Besides… did you ever meet Jeff’s wife? Talk about poster child for retro-active abortion… =P
Yeesh. That was cold. =P
Re: /es/\\e
edit: And the only reason I feel gov’t doesn’t want abortion to be legal is the same for the reason suicide’s illegal:
They lose another (or potential) tax payer.
