ça me dégoûte profondément

English, as a language, should be dragged out into the town square and summarily shot.

Why?

No *official* second person plural.

I should *not* have to choose between “y’all” and “you guys.”

Nope. Shouldn’t have to.

That is all.

Hallo Em :) Congrats on the major kudos on your English paper! That’s so cool. Not that it’s a surprise in the least–you’ve always been an excellent writer.

It’s so beautiful outside today. Mid-70s, not a cloud in the sky, birds chirping outside my window… Wow.

  3. Holy PANTS, do I ever agree with you.

you could try what i do:

make your own offical second person plural.

mine is y’all. i’ve had a few new yorkers agree that it works and is necessary. if they agree with me, it must be so.

Good idea, but… :) It seems like adopting that second person plural would necessitate adopting the related forms of the word as well, like (the horror) “y’alls” and “y’alls’s.” I’m not sure if I’m ready for that.

  6. ztibugey says:

well, considering that i already do that….

including things like “y’all’ll”, “y’all’ed” (as in y’all had better do that), and, yes, definitely, “y’all’s”

You clearly far outstrip me in terms of linguistic intrepidity :)
