I did my taxes last night. I thought I’d come out better than last year, when my employer screwed up my withholding and I ended up having to pay $300 instead of getting a refund like normal people.

Well. They did it again. Somehow my withholding was magically changed to a “3” from a “0” in between my new (permanent) employee orientation in February and now. So I owe Uncle Sam $1400.

I was so mad last night I couldn’t see straight. It wasn’t just that…but that was the culmination of a long line of financial fiascoes that have been assailing me. I can’t remember having been that angry in a long time. At a lot of things–myself, the university, God… It wasn’t good. At all.

Moral of the story: Make absolutely sure you’re having enough withheld so you’ll actually get a refund when tax season rolls around again.

I am so discouraged right now. For a million different reasons.
