Lots of upheavals here today at work. Turns out that Betty (our beloved interim director) is going to be leaving to do freelance stuff in about a month, and of course we knew that David was going to head back to Costa Rica in February…so I took the oppotunity to let everybody know that I was going to be leaving at the end of the summer, which means that there will be three graphic design positions available here, not including the directorial position. So if you want a great graphic design job in central NC, contact me.
In other news, I don’t eat very well. When I went in for my physical about 4-5 months ago, the doctor was completely baffled when I told her my eating habits. She was very pleased with everything else, including my exercise habits and the fact that I stay away from toxins, but she said, “I can’t figure out what you eat.” I don’t eat a lot of fruits or veggies or dairy, to be sure, and I probably ingest more than my share of energy bars and hummus and pita bread, but I feel fine. But it did get me wondering–I feel well at the moment, sure, but is this really as good as I could feel? Who knows how my alertness and productivity would be affected if I just ate better and got more sleep at night. Have I gotten accustomed to feeling 70-80% (if indeed that’s the percentage) as good as I could feel? I don’t get sick often at all, but I still wonder sometimes if I’m self-aware enough about my health. I mean, just 6 or 7 years ago I wasn’t even self-aware enough to recognize the effects of caffeine on my energy levels, or to connect after-dinner sleepiness with the fact that I was digesting, or to recognize specific cravings for specific nutrients. Food for thought (zing!).

It is really hard to gage—you probably won’t immediately notice the effects of eating better, unless you expect to feel better (never underestimate the power of the placebo).
I can’t imagine not eating a lot of fruits and veggies. It’s difficult to get the vitamins you need without doing so. Do you take any sort of supplement?
Hmm…good point. Maybe the reason I feel well now in spite of being “malnourished” (according to conventional wisdom) is that I don’t expect to feel bad?
No, I don’t, mainly for simplicity’s sake, which is kind of a dumb reason in the end, I suppose. I should go to GNC and buy some vitamins.
i used to worry about your vitamin levels, too, but if you look at your power bars’ nutritional information, you’ll see that you’re likely fine (assuming you still eat as many of those as you used to). i did this one day and was surprised by all the added vitamins. This put me at ease about your health.
Well, as it’s already been pointed out, you probably get most of the vitamins you need from your nutrition bar consumption, so that’s good. I don’t really like taking vitamins, but that’s because I don’t really like taking pills of any sort… It feels unnatural or something.
Anywayyyy.
Yeah…I’ve thought about that too. And I mentioned it to the doctor. She replied (and I agree) that our bodies just prefer and probably absorb more of the nutrients that come from natural sources like fruits and veggies.
Hope you’re having a great day :)
the same to you.
i was actually sending that comment in response to your taking vitamins…. :o) you sort of already are with those power bars. the only improvement you could really make would be to eat actual fruits and vegatables, not take vitamins…. :o)
how do you find out about things like that ncma exhibit? just look at the website?
Thank you.
Yes, I know…I think that was the point I was making too, but I’m all confused now. I think we basically agree?
Looking at the website is one way :) I actually got the tickets for Christmas, so that’s how I found out about it.
