You know it’s getting close to winter when taking a shower is as much an exercise in thawing out as actually getting clean.
I rocked the full set of long underwear this morning. It’s amazing what just another layer between pants and skin can do for one’s warmth. The only problem is that it’s not easily removable like a coat or a scarf, so if it should warm up a little outside, the situation could get uncomfortable. I’m all about clothes that fit closely against one’s skin, no flapping around or looseness, but I also like layers, since they allow me a greater adaptability to ambient temperature. Those two clothing attributes are at odds more often than not.
We got a tree yesterday! Finally. It’s about a seven-footer, so it’s only a bit taller than me, but it’s full and thick and well-proportioned. I bought a couple of strands of lights and a tree skirt afterwards and we decorated it with the meager number of decorations we have. Stephen tried repeatedly to attach a hook to an empty beer bottle and hang it on the tree, and every time I took it off. The beer bottle was on the tree when I got up this morning. I took it off. If I get the chance I’ll take a tree picture when I get home tonight.

layers are a beautiful thing (I myself even now at home have one layer of cotton long underwear, then a thick layer of bulky wool, then my pajama pants) but it does suck when you go in somewhere that has the heat waaaay up, because you can’t exactly remove a lower layer of clothing in any graceful fashion (though don’t be afraid to head the restroom and stuff the long underwear in your backpack).
i decorated for xmas last night, it made forget i was sick for almost an hour, and my flatmates *loved* it (don’t worry, there will probably be more details in my lj entry i am theoretically going to write in a few mins)

That’s exactly what I did just before heading out for lunch. It warmed up considerably. I think if my bedroom weren’t so freakishly cold in the morning I’d probably dress more suitably for the day, but having to add layers just to make it in one’s own bedroom skews one’s perspective a bit.
