I’m really sleepy today.
How do you watch a movie? I’m undeniably curious. Do you have a certain chair or couch you sit in? A particular time or mood to be in? A drink or a snack? Does it depend on the movie? How do you watch an artsy movie? How do you watch a scary movie? Does it differ? I wanna know.

o.o; You’ve no idea who this is.. But.. I watch a movie by being bored, or simply.. just wanting to watch a movie. xD Yup. o_o;
I can’t sit in chairs . . . I have to be on a couch, or a bed – something big enough that others can fit onto, that I can stretch out on. I usually have a blanket (I get cold easily) and normally I’m eating kettle corn.
But not always.
You?
Kettle corn… Mmm. A lot of people I know don’t like it because it’s sweet, but I’m a fan. We eat it at work all the time, actually.
It really depends on the movie as to where I’ll be. If it’s a big, action-y movie (Gladiator, Independence Day, etc) I’ll sit in the recliner, farther away from the screen, but if it’s a smaller, more intricate film I’ll be on the floor, propped up on a husband, just so I can see and hear the nuances better. The second time I watched Amélie with friends I held the remote sideways in front of my face the whole time so it would block out the subtitles and I could try to experience the movie without their aid in understanding the dialogue and narration. I liked it better that way. I don’t usually need a blanket, though, except if it’s late at night in the wintertime. I’m pretty warm-blooded, I suppose.
I love husbands.
I also love saying that.
i have the best memories associated with kettle corn. all of them are associated with watching movies and tv in kristan and bobbie’s apartment in clemson.
movies are for when i don’t want to operate my body. romantic comedies, comedies, and some thrillers are for when i don’t want to operate my mind either. sometimes it’s just really pleasant to turn off and be a sponge. for really great movies there’s brain exercise, but you still have the feeling of being a receptacle for image and sound. whether you synthasize or analyse the image and sound or simply ‘consume’ it depends on the movie and your level of engagement. but in the end, it’s about escapism for me.
1) i only have one seat in the living room (a loveseat), so that’s all i get.
2) nights are best, but so are rainy afternoons.
3) mood: see opening paragraph.
4) one of the few times i indulge in caffiene. in oak island i often ate dinner while watching to conserve time. in movie theaters, i like milk duds…they last a long time.
5) artsy movies are best in artsy art houses and at home alone.
6) scary movies are for friends.
Take heart my little friend
And push back your seat
Soon we’ll be far away
Far from the street
Where you learned how to be
Not what you are
Up on the shoulder
There is a town
With a little motel
And an old movie house
We’ll go to a movie
Whatever it is
It depends on the kind of movie. If it’s a horror or sci-fi film I’ll watch it sitting up straight in an armchair or on the couch, but never in my room. Those kind of movies are also better when viewed friends. If it’s a romantic comedy or a drama or and art film I prefer to watch it in my room, sprawled across my bed, head resting on hands, near the teevee. If it’s just a general comedy (Zoolander, Billy Madison, Ferris Beuller) I can watch it anywhere at anytime. But overall I like to watch movies at night or on a dark, cloudy day.
I don’t like to eat while watching movies because I don’t think about the fact that I’m eating and I hate doing that — I have to think about eating while I’m doing it. There’s always a glass of water nearby me though, just because it gives me something to do… and drink. Heh.
Isn’t it interesting how movies can be escapist and not, simultaneously? Like, how the act of watching something thought-provoking will make us wrestle with inner questions for hours on end afterwards, in effect bringing us closer to our own reality after all’s said and done.
What’s the song from (I could just Google it, but it’s 4 a.m. Sunday morning and I’m lazy)?
I think we should start a movement by calling it “the telly” instead of the TV. You’re already on your way just by spelling it out. I think a little more Britishness in this country wouldn’t hurt.
Thanks for sharing the movie-experiencing details :o)
the eels – daisies of the galaxy
great sound to the song…lyrics don’t do it justice.
why are you awake at 4 am on a sunday morning? :)
Hmmm… perhapsibly.
Haha, you’re welcome. Did you get the answers you were looking for? And what about you?
hahaha… I don’t even remember. I think some of it had to do with the three-hour nap I took earlier in the day… Ever stay up late for no good reason?
