Spent a nice day in Germany today. Got up late, packed up, and drove down with Aaron and Donald to Stuttgart, where we visited the Porsche and Mercedes museums before heading back. From the perspective of enjoying the daily activities, I think it’s a good thing I drove Elyse up to Bonn last night, as she’d have been bored to tears today, though we enjoyed in muchly (well, Aaron and I; Donald didn’t say much the whole trip).
Quick note on driving: They know how to here! It’s so wonderful. Highways (Autobahnen and Autoroutes in Germany and France, respectively) are either two or three lanes; trucks stay mostly in the right lane, only venturing into the middle lane to pass, and cars occupy the left two. People pass only on the left, use their signals, and get out of your way quickly if you’re coming up behind them. And drive around 90-110 mph, on average. People stick to the speed limit when there actually is one (around construction and in hilly country), and aren’t boneheaded like most American drivers. I love it. Except of course for the fact that our little rental Opel is hardly Autobahn-worthy (at least in my mind). Ah well. When I have my 850csi I’ll come back and have some fun :o)
