let’s get out of the car with open arms
not wait to be embraced

Sunny Monday. Lovely outside–and warmer. I think this is as close as I get to being a morning person… Breathing deeply, clear-eyed, longing for the outdoors even though it’s still midwinter. My disposition mirrors the atmosphere today; I’m sunny, clear, and already looking torward warmer months…

Bunch of things to do at the office, but nothing absolutely critical bearing down on me. I need to work on the UNC maps webpage, the Bryan Fellowship posters, the CERT magnets, and a business card or two… I’ll take care of it all by the end of the day.

Thinking about taking a day off to go skiing next week. Aaron and I were going to go on MLK day, but holiday rates are in effect that weekend, which means a lift ticket alone would be somewhere on the order of $60, mighty steep. We’ll probably just make a day trip of it, to a “lesser” resort, but at least it’s skiing. Now if I could only convince Aaron to appreciate other aspects of skiing besides racing down the hill every time, I think the outing would be complete. His competitive juices get flowing every time he surveys the slope from the top of the hill, and although the record still stands 2-1 in my favor as far as races won and lost, I still prefer the satisfaction of finesse-ing it down the hill, so to speak, in other words, carving perfect turns, keeping skis parallel, and so on. It’s fun either way… But I prefer a respite from the adrenaline-fueled tucks down the hill at ticketable speeds.

nobody knows, darling
nobody knows how they are loved

i’m soooo jealous. i wanna go skiing, but i don’t know when i’ll have the time (and not be risking my last chance at NCAAs by going)…

but i agree…i much prefer to carve pretty turns down the slope than to just race down at top speed. i’m all about the skills, man. ;)

Nah, nothing beats racing down a hill with your butt way up in the air, and your poles “tucked” but angled 45 degrees up like car antennas about to poke someone’s eye out. That’s always the best seeing kids go flying by you looking like that and then wiping out 10 seconds later. Of course we were once those kids, but have matured since then…..a little.

Skiing! Only gone once (well, one trip), but would absolutely love to go right now. I’m not a fan of racing, either, but that’s mainly because I’d be afraid of wiping out.

Good luck with planning a ski day!

    hahaha

I think it’s more satisfying to blow by them, inches away, actually tucking correctly… Same rush you get when sucking some ricer’s doors off on the highway. ‘Tis nice.

Skiing does take some planning… But it’s worth it for me to be able to experience the speed and the satisfaction of making that perfect run down the slope, in full view of everyone on the chairlift…

…minutes after you faceplant in the middle of the same run, collect your equipment, and slink down to the bottom of the slope :o)
