David is back home for Christmas after his first semester at NC State. Brought his computer back, too, with a little program he somehow acquired at college–an NES emulator. It came with basically every single Nintendo game ever made, too… This is bad, folks. I wasted about 2 hours earlier tonight playing Super Mario Bros. 3, and a couple of hours on Friday playing Battletoads. All my games are there… Tecmo Bowl, Mega Man 3, RC Pro Am, Zelda, Bubble Bobble, Micro Machines, Contra, Gradius & Life Force, etc etc. It takes me back. I feel like one of those twentysomethings buying the old Atari 2600s to relive their younger days when Mom and Dad wouldn’t let them play until they finished their homework.
Drove four hours out to the North Carolina coast yesterday, Kitty Hawk, to be precise. The “Celebration of Flight” is taking place until the 17th, when the replica of the Wright Flyer will retrace the original’s flight, 100 years later. It was great fun–like a glorified air show, with aerobatics, exhibits, presentations, and lots of parked airplanes and helicopters for us to gawk at. I came home with a ton of brochures and stickers. David drove with me, and we had a great time together. I told him it felt like I was making up for lost time not spent with him this semester. We ate at Jersey Mike’s, sat in the Coast Guard helicopter together, listened to Tonic in the car, and got pulled over on the way home (I only got a warning, though–there’s something to be said for not incriminating yourself when the trooper comes to your window). Had a grand time.
Whoa, even I remember those games. Well, I mean I remember my brother playing them and hogging them and never letting me have a turn.
I watched a bit of the building of the replica of the Wright Flyer. It was interesting.
Cool about spending time with your brother and getting out of the ticket.

I really like driving in NC (how I miss it!) and I loved the road trip I took to Kitty Hawk and Jockey’s Ridge my freshman year (sigh). So long ago…
and that NES similator. yes, one of my american friends in Beijing has it, and I am supposedly buying a computer tomorrow, but yes, I think I am going to have to resist. I don’t have any time to be bored, let alone have fun, much less to play ancient NES games that I was never very good at but addicted to nonetheless…
hahaha… Yeah. Three brothers in the house made video game time a precious thing, especially since we were only allowed to play them on Saturdays. 2-player games were our friends.
We actually saw the Wright Flyer replica on Saturday–it was in one of the pavillions and the builders/pilots were chatting with everyone. It’s actually the only thing I got pictures of before my camera’s battery died completely *sigh*

I don’t have quite your sense of longing for driving in this fair state, but that could be because I’m here and I take it for granted as I commute to work every morning… Although coming back from the coast we did drive for miles through wilderness on highway 64, whole half-hours between gas stations, and I suppose that’s something you probably don’t get a whole lot of over there.
And yes, resist the siren call of the emulator… :o)
