Who decided that “uh huh” would stand for “yes” and “unh uh” would stand for “no”? I was wondering that this morning. We use them all the time, but where did they come from? Maybe it all has to do with the tone of voice we tend to use when saying them, which is definitely part of the expressions, at least as I use them.
French techno on the radio. Kinda weird, but I like weird, and besides, the station breaks are nice :o) I just wish the network wouldn’t stall and rebuffer the stream every minute or so. Ooh, French rap now. Hahaha. It sounds a bit silly. I guess it’s hard to sound thuggish when you’re speaking in French.
I drove half an hour to Cary last night around 7 for our weekly youth leaders meeting. This week it was supposed to be a “fun night,” so I brought Apples to Apples. I pulled up in the parking lot of Jeremy’s (the youth leader) apartment complex, and didn’t see the cars of the other leaders, but I did see his. I walked upstairs, knocked on the door, and was greeted with a big hello and laugh and the news that the fun night is this Friday. I laughed and made conversation, but I felt really, really stupid… I stuck around for a minute, then drove back. I’ve been feeling an inordinate amount of spiritual attack over the whole youth group situation. Last night was an example–I felt an incredibly strong impulse to have a pity party on the way home and just an overwhelming sense of self-condemnation. I mean, I just didn’t read the email carefully enough… Jeremy was probably amused for a minute, then went back to his dinner. The youth group meetings on Saturday nights and the regular youth leader meetings on Tuesdays are other examples. Sometimes in the midst of them I get an incredible sense that I don’t have any sort of rapport with any of the kids or the other leaders, like I don’t mesh with them at all, and how could I possibly make a difference, and so on and so forth… But I know it’s where I’m supposed to be. I’d appreciate your prayers for that.

French techno? Rap?! Man, I thought the only instrument they used in France was the accordion. :)
Definitely keeping you in my prayers. That incident so sounds like something that
haswould happen to me.Hahaha… Well, not quite. But French pop music is absolutely terrible. It’s a miracle anybody listens to the radio at all after the Ministre de Culture mandated that at least 70% of the programming on French adult contemporary stations must be French-sourced music (i.e. not American or British pop). But so it is over there.
Thank you for your prayers :o) They’re felt, with certainty.
Well, their pop music may be awful, but I really want to go to France. I think I’m going to go, like, tomorrow or something.
So…seeing as how tomorrow is today…you’re in France now, right? I would join you, but there’s a hurricane outside…
*sigh*
But wouldn’t a hurricane provide a good reason to go to France?
I don’t know.
It provides an excellent reason to anywhere but where the hurricane is, unless,
a. you enjoy experiencing hurricanes
b. a person whose company you greatly enjoy is with you
c. all of the above.
Besides, planes have a bit more difficulty than usual taking off when the winds are as gusty as they are. But I could always drive to a non-hurricaned airport, and…yeah. I think this whole thing was hypothetical anyway?
:)
Yes.
