i absolutely love that piece, both the string version and the choral version (which we sang in carolina choir last year). lovely stuff.
Indeed. When I originally heard it, I thought the progression of the melody and intensity building on itself would make it a good song for, ah, amorous encounters, but there’s a sadness, a deep sadness to the piece that I only heard in repeated listens.
If you like that, try the Barber violin concerto. It’s wonderful. Hilary Hahn’s version is terrific.
