I hate it when I change myself for others. I can feel myself doing it, subconsciously agreeing with more than I should be, not holding firm about what I really think as much as I could. Conversely, I hate people changing for me as well. One of things I look for when I formulate my ideal is someone with a strong enough sense of identity that she’s not two different people depending on the situation. Granted, there is something to be said for adapting to situations, and no one has everything figured out, but she needs to at least know how she responds to certain scenarios, how to make decisions, and just to have well-formed opinions about things.

And I want to be able to just longingly gaze at her and admire her beauty. Openly, to lose myself in her eyes, without a twinge in the back of my mind that says, “Do I really mean this?” That’s one of the best parts about being with someone–you can look at them in silence, and they back at you, for minutes on end without turning your eyes away. It’s one of the world’s great emotions.
