Floridian downpour earlier this evening… I stood on the porch and let the wind whip around me as the storm built, and built, until… Release. Thunder rolled, water poured from the roof, and I could barely make out the swimming pool across the way, the rain was so intense. It was glorious, but short-lived. Half an hour later, the clouds broke, and the cool, blue evening sky craned its neck through. Moisture still hung in the air, thicky, and insects of every sort were having field days in the puddles. Thank goodness for cool, clean, dry air conditionning in the apartment.
Tonight, I’m relaxing. Rear Window and Almost Famous have been rented. It’s been a busy week, starting out badly but ending with a good sequence of days. Regardless of the emotional state of the week, I had my hands full, so it passed quickly. Sleeping in will be so nice tomorrow morning. I’m looking forward to church on Sunday, too. My dad, who, because of our many moves, has had (together with my mom, of course) to choose new churches frequently, allayed my insecurities about this new church in Jacksonville. I was feeling overwhelmed by the distance, but he said that I will simply have to plan on four hours for church on Sunday mornings and stick to it. It’s the truth. Every time I’ve been there the words spoken have met me right where I was, as well. And I love the worship. It’s not terribly far, in any event, and my cruise missile of a car makes short work of the distance anyway :o) Yes, I am looking forward to going back.
Driving around this evening, I heard the song “All You Wanted” (or whatever the title is) on the radio. I turned it up. There is a small radio in the office, and Bob (the electrician) keeps it turned down so as not to disturb any conversations. It’s just as well, anyway, since most of the songs they play are absolutely gutless pop and butt-rock (with thanks to Jenny for the expression). I had heard the song countless times, but this was the first chance I had to hear the lyrics and music loudly and clearly. I really like it, for many shapeless reasons. The details of the song are well put-together… And the wild abandon of the vocals on occasion meshed well with my mood at that point. I might have to buy the cd, something I haven’t done in literally years. After I buy that David Bowie album. Maybe. We’ll see.

yay David Bowie :)
