I wanna be in the light
as You are in the light
Warm day. It rained last night, so wetness covered the cars this morning–except on my machine, safe under its car cover. It’s a losing battle… I need to come to terms with this. No matter how obsessively I maintain it, it’s going to get t-boned by some riced-out Civic with a hang-glider strapped to the trunk or it’s going to throw a piston through the hood, or something. It’s just a possession.
I want to bring our telescope down here. It’s never used at home, and in spite of the fact that it’s nearly always in the corner of the front room, out of the way, it seems to take a surprising amount of abuse. It’s been a while since I’ve been stargazing. I’ve probably forgotten who half the constellations are now; they used to be so familiar to me. The night skies here are such a perfect amalgam of atmospheres–the bright city sky to the west where civilization is more concentrated–heck, present, the sky to the east is deeply dark over the ocean. The lights of the west are low on the horizon, giving the globe of the sky an eerie, bottom-lit aura. The stars are bright, and even successfully invade the western light. Thin lavender wisps of clouds trail off in the evening, and the sea breeze picks up. The air is cool, but still humid and full of life, as the salt plays havoc with the curls of your hair. Yes, I will go out tonight a greet friends long neglected.

also… there are supposed to be several planets clustered near one another. the best night should be may 5th, but i think its noticable now.
have fun :o) i envy you.
Thanks for the tip :o) Clear skies aren’t as far away from you as you might think, though. Jordan Lake is ideal, many nights.
Heavens, what sort of ‘machine’ do you own??
I didn’t have a car for 3 years, and I still hate that I now own one.
Heavens, you hate that you own a car? Cannot…relate…to…comment…
It’s a white ’88 Toyota Supra Turbo, my only great weakness as far as materialism is concerned. I step into an auto parts store and it’s like entering an alternate dimension where I want to buy everything. But we all have our idiosyncrosies, as someone said to me recently.
Without a car, I rode my bike, took public transportation, or ran/walked everywhere I needed to go. It felt good. Then I took a job with a *commute* and bought a car. I no longer have the commute, but still use a car, and feel LAZY because of it.
Sigh.
I am so anal about my car. It is sad.. I know better but I still baby it like it is not replacable. I park far from anyone, check for new scratches daily.. everyone tells me I need to let it go and realize it is just a car. ..i think i need help…
My attitude: Cars are neither appliances nor gods. But yeah, I understand. I’m pretty obsessive about my ride as well.
