Well, I caught the bug too. The infamous 36-hour stomach bug that waylaid our kids, that is. It ran its course yesterday; I was pretty useless at work and very, very glad to come home to Diane and the kids. D made her vaunted broccoli chicken casserole (which I didn’t eat then but had a generous helping of leftovers for lunch today) and made a “spot” for me on the couch after we’d put the boy and girl in their spots for the night. A good night’s sleep, bland foods, sipping ginger ale and easing back into the normal food routine and all is right with the world again.

Wonderful anniversary weekend. We dropped the kids off with Mom and Dad on Friday evening and spent Friday and Saturday nights in a hotel; just a mini-getaway for the two of us. No plans, few expectations other than just time together, something we’ve needed for a while. We visited the NC Art Museum, did a little shopping but otherwise just laid low until it was time to reclaim the children on Sunday morning. Mom and Dad and the kids had a good time too. They planted flowers on Saturday morning, helped a family friend celebrate a birthday that evening and took Grandpa to the airport at the crack of dawn Sunday morning. Luke had some “readjusting” to do, coupled with the letdown from the end of a fun weekend, but Monday morning everybody was chipper again. Diane even had her best night of sleep in months, a real stunner.

Homeward.
