I told Diane this morning that we have a house of peace. There is no strife; there is nothing unspoken that needs to be spoken, no deep-seated resentment or disagreement. There is quiet. There is no television, and there can be quiet in the kitchen in the morning, and quiet in the living room in the evenings. We have been blessed with a boy who enjoys peaceful play as much as he enjoys running laps around the couch. He is endowed with a remarkable amount of patience, self-regulation and such a wide range of experiences he enjoys for his age.
Surrounding our peaceful house, though, is a bit of upheaval. I was laid off from my job in Kernersville the first week of the month. It was completely sudden, even for my boss (who seemed even less of a fan of the event than I was, if that were possible), and “not performance or personality related” at all, but simply a fault of the company’s ailing fortunes. Almost everyone involved felt it a nearsighted decision, and this was partly confirmed two days later when they “hired me back” as a contract employee to finish up projects I had been responsible for when I left. Today is my last day back. They gave me a decent severance package but I have still been looking for jobs furiously. After enduring a period in which I felt like I was tossing resumes and cover letters and phone calls into a black hole, I secured an interview at what seems like a good company in downtown Winston-Salem. It’s slated for tomorrow morning and it is a big relief to actually have some initiative from the “other side.” My first choice is really dragging their feet, but the LORD will provide opportunities and open doors and guide me exactly where I need to be, and what’s more, will provide for and sustain our little family. He has answered so many prayers already.
Sorry to hear about the job situation, Matt. That really sucks.
I’ll be in the same position in about a month or so as I’ll be looking for a job after we move all our stuff from NC to Kansas City. (That sentence came out really weird. Anyways…) As of yet i still have no idea what i’m ‘qualified’ for or what i want to do. I’ve found that i really enjoy remodeling houses, but i don’t know if that might be something i want to do full time or not.
But anywho (as Mr Wooley used to say…and probably still does), on to our big news: Kristi’s pregnant and we’re expecting a little John junior sometime in the Fall! She’s about six weeks along and has just started dealing with a bit of morning sickness (some mornings are better than others)…so that’s not so fun. In fact we started to head back home yesterday and i am writing this from a hotel at 10:30AM because Kristi usually can’t get out of bed until 11-12 or so.
Just wanted to let you guys know. We’ll be in NC until the end of February when we throw all our earthly posessions in a truck and head West.
Oh, and we, too, have discovered the joy and quiet that not having a tv (or at least not having cable tv) brings. We still like to watch a movie every now and then, but it really does lose a certain grip on your soul when it’s not there waiting to suck you in at the push of a button.

Hey John. Thanks for the encouragement. And congratulations to you and Kristi! We found out earlier this month that we’re expecting another Suffern sometime in August as well. Also, I got a good local job at a company that makes point-of-purchase displays. So we’ll see how that goes. Maybe we can get up when you’ll be in town :)
