my mind’s distracted and diffused
my thoughts are many miles away

Accompanied Diane and Luke to an ultrasound for our baby today, and… it’s a GIRL! Diane cried; she was overjoyed, and I am very happy too. I’m so excited about all the things we will get to do together, about learning and growing and protecting and interacting and just meeting this new eternal soul with hopes and dreams and fears and loves just like the rest of us. It made it very real. I was in a daze all day and was grateful for the slow day at work, which gave me more time to reflect. We had already (sort of) chosen a name a month or two ago on the way back from a trip to Charlotte. We didn’t even seriously consider boys’ names and jokingly felt today that it was a little prophetic that we didn’t. Barring any last minute changes of heart, her name will be Penelope Wynn (“Penny” for short). Diane has an affinity for Greek names and I love the mythological Penelope’s character, her love for her husband and the faithfulness she has become a paragon of. As for “Wynn,” it is Welsh in origin and connotes “fair, pure, joy.” We’re excited. Our little family grows.

That’s awesome, you guys! Congrats! Kristi and i go in next Wednesday for the same thing…so we should know by then, as well. We’ve sort of been joking about it being a boy (a little ‘John jr.’ for me to teach car stuff to ;), but for a little while Kristi was having dreams of a little girl…so we really don’t know. Whatever it is, i’m sure it will be cute…if a little funny lookin’. ;)

    Beautiful name.

Penelope was one of the female mythological figures about which i based my final paper in whatever class that was during my next to last semester at UNC. (I never could remember course designations. They’re all different degrees of evil, in my opinion. And seeing as how one evil is really as bad as another in my eyes, as in God’s…well, you can see where i’m going with this, can’t you?? :)

    Love you guys…many blessings.

    John D.

Congratulations! I am so pleased that you two are bringing a baby girl into the world to call your very own. I hope Luke enjoys having a younger sister! I pray that she is a healthy and bright baby, taking after her parents.

    Congratulations! When is due date???
Penelope is a great name and “Penny” a classic nickname.
We’re still adjusting to thinking in terms of a boy…praying for our ‘son’ every morning is kind of like a major brainjolt! It’s so wild, to know there’s a little person swimming around inside of me…to know them will be an adventure like no other, surely.
Don’t know if John mentioned it or not, but we’re pretty sure we’ll be naming our little guy John Bastian and calling him Bastian. (Unless he pops out and seems totally different and needs another name!) Hope all is well with you guys.

    blessings,
