l’arbre magnifique
We saw Transformers on Saturday. It was a mess of a movie–too long, with far too much material with sexual overtones for its intended audience, not to mention the robots were just…visually busy. When watching a fight scene it was difficult to distinguish the debris from the robots themselves. There was a lot of transforming from the vehicles to the robots and back, which is a draw, but not enough to offset the film’s flaws. I’ll stick to the original animated series, thanks.
Primer, on the other hand, was brilliant. I can’t remember having to work so hard to grasp the fundamental mechanisms behind a film’s plot, and I can’t remember having so much fun doing it. I can’t honestly say I understood everything the first time through, but the engineering-ish dialogue, the visuals, everything… As I told Diane later, the movie just made all the right synapses fire in my brain. Recommended.
Coming up to the big beach trip in a couple of weeks. We’re both really looking forward to it, though the interplay of all the families involved is a big unknown. The environment, hopefully, will help smooth over any interpersonal bumpiness.
Life here at ImageWorks is settling down into a routine. I’m “putting down roots” here at my desk, which in essence means bringing in cds to copy them to the computer, putting up pictures of the fam (which was actually done quite a while ago) and personalizing my desktop scheme and screensaver. Exciting… But on a more serious note, it is nice to be in a place where I feel invested and where I feel I have potential to really become an integral part of the company. Case in point: there was a meeting with a potential client this morning (Sealy mattresses) at which I provided all the materials and just the quality of the interchange made me feel like I was really being taken seriously on a level I haven’t felt before. It’s a blessing, makes my job much more satisfying and bodes well for the long term.
