Out with the old and busted; make way for the new hotness:
At work, that is. Got it in yesterday; just got it set up and everything transferred over today. I use two computers at work: a Mac, for about 90% of the design work that I do, and a PC for using Solidworks (mainly instruction sheets). Each computer has a monitor, one a flatscreen and one a CRT, and I place them side-by-side on my desk. Today I discovered the video card on the new Mac happens to have two video inputs, and it came with adapters. After a little finagling I rigged the monitors so that the Mac can use both simultaneously. So the 90% of the time that I use the Mac I will have one double-wide monitor. I don’t know if I could go back…
Luke’s first soccer practice was Tuesday evening. The coach planned it for 5:40 p.m., a good time for him but lousy for us. Still, with some creative rearranging we can make it. This week Diane stayed home with Penelope, and Luke and I went. His Coach Mark handed out t-shirts to him and the ten or so kids on his team. They’re blue, he’s no.2, and they decided to call themselves “The Blue Dolphins” (a decision he had no interest in, by the way). About half of Luke’s teammates are 4, the rest 3 years old like himself. The boy/girl ratio is similar. Most of the 4-year-olds seem to know what the deal is, or at least have a grasp of some of the social concepts that playing soccer entails. I mentioned to Diane after we returned home how many things we take for granted as adults, things many of the kids have no experience with, like standing in a line, or teamwork, or deference to an authority figure like a coach.
But good gosh, was it fun to watch, and fun for Luke too. He chased the ball around, nearly got stampeded by his teammates during warm-up drills, actually kicked the ball in the goal during one drill and loved wearing his uniform.
His first actual “game” is tomorrow afternoon. His mommy outfitted him with shin guards and new shoes, among other things. Pictures and video to follow soon.
