tachs and bondo
Dreamed about Twinkie last night. It’s the second (or possibly third) time that’s happened in the past few months. Both times I remember thinking, during my dream, how much I loved that car. It did see me through a lot. And it was fun–I used to say that below 30 mph, the car was in its element. It was light, the steering was sharp and the engine was torquey and flexible. I think more than anything I really miss driving a stickshift… Hmm. Diane avoids driving the Saturn (my little commuter car) at all costs. I wonder if I could… No–there have been a handful of times where she’s needed to drive the automatic Saturn because I’ve had the Volvo, or for some other random reason. Granted, that’s really only happened once or twice a year, and… No. Can’t do it. No.
In my dream, I drove Twinkie to Carmax to trade it in for a newer Tercel, one of the really boxy ones from the mid-’80s that was actually 4WD. They had two models, one a blue automatic sedan and a red wagon. My preference was for the wagon, since it was more practical, and I looked through the back window to the front console to see if it was a stickshift, which it was. I turned around to look at Twinkie, which had mysteriously become auburn-colored and very shiny. Turning back to inspect the “new” Tercels, the sedan had become the manual one and the wagon had changed into the automatic car, which was frustrating… That’s when I woke up, I think.
