On Sunday night, after reminiscing about old Disney feature-length cartoons we used to watch over and over as kids, Diane and I watched Beauty and the Beast while putting together wedding favors (a major percentage of this wedding is DIY). I have to say the film has aged remarkably well. Some of the animation wasn’t quite as sparklingly good as I remembered it, but I think we’re spoiled by new technology and computer animation. There is a warmth and authenticity to the film’s palette that is very endearing. She and I both agreed that a lot of the drama seemed much more compressed than we remembered as kids; that is, emotional moments seemed more drawn out, with more dramatic impact, when we were younger. Maybe our attention spans have grown? The film’s 90-odd minutes seemed much, much longer when I was 10.
That said, the romance in the film has actually grown more affecting now that I have more personal experience with that range of emotions. When I was younger those feelings were on the horizon, tentatively experienced but still very far off. I didn’t shy away from those scenes–far from it–but I didn’t understand them to the degree I do now. The humorousness of the slapstick in the film, on the other hand, has lessened sharply :)

Wow…no posts in almost a week. It’s like you’re busy or something… ;)
Remember to take a breath every now and then. Other than that…enjoy! (And remember it’s a once in a lifetime event.)

You might say that… :)
Thanks John. Missed you at the “bachelor party” last Friday night! A good time was had and much cars were talked of. Want a suggestion for a wedding gift? *nudge nudge wink wink*
:)
I’m glad someone was there to make sure you had a bachelor party. It’s amazing how some people will just forget about it or how their friends don’t even think to throw one for them. (I know from experience…not concerning me…Steve did great…but knowing some of the other guys…)
Hey, if you got a suggestion i’m all ears. As long as it’s as good as a great wafflemaker…(we have ours with us here in MO and it makes the BEST waffles…;).
And no, you can’t have the FD. :-P
