I’m trying to get my mind around the concept of classical music at the moment (although I should be drawing like a fiend). I think part of my reservations have to do with the way we’re brought up on music nowadays; we demand that music give us a gut feeling or speak in a more forthright manner about issues which concern us or that we’re concerned about. Classical music, for me, has always been the “faceless” music, partly by virtue of the fact that it doesn’t have any lyrics (unless you count opera, which I haven’t built up a tolerance for yet), and partly because classical music seems to speak softly in a language I don’t fully understand. I just feel a little “ignant” every time I listen to it (purposefully, not as background music) :o)
