The blower motor for the HVAC system here in the house finally died. It was making an awful ruckus earlier this afternoon, and I turned it on when I returned home in hopes of diagnosing things. It made the same metallic racket and then promptly seized. It won’t hardly turn over now, so I think a DIY fix is probably out of the question. Fortunately it hasn’t been as hot lately so the temperature in the evening is bearable. The house tends to stay cooler than outside in the mornings and afternoons and stay warmer later in the evenings, but I will survive. Harsha doesn’t seem to mind, at least.
My brother Paul defended his master’s thesis yesterday afternoon. Diane and I drove back to Raleigh to be there and listen to it. I’m so proud of him. He’s a master’s student in meteorology and wrote his thesis on mesoscale gravity waves or some such. I shared with Diane after it was finished that I am acquainted with esoteric and technical terminology and dialogue, but hardly a sentence of Paul’s presentation wasn’t chock full of specialized meteorological terms. And the amazing thing was that it wasn’t all just white noise to me–I could follow the jist of the thesis presentation without being versed in the field. He did a phenomenal job.

Congrats, Paul! It was quite impressive and I enjoyed it! It inspired me.
