Back in the office after a long week at the beach with Diane and her family. We went to Ocean Isle Beach, north of Myrtle just across the NC border, two Saturdays ago and returned the day before yesterday. It was a welcome hiatus from the routine here and I am very grateful to her parents for having let me come along. We spent a lot of time on the beach, visited the glut of commercialism that is Myrtle Beach one day, went out to eat at nice seafood restaurants and went to a couple of museums: a little planetarium that I had a great deal of affection for and a little oceanography museum with a large room full of life-size “models” of sea creatures, one of which (the leatherback turtle) was particularly imposing in its size.
Luke didn’t take to the beach immediately, and even near the end of the week was still skeptical about the whole affair. He has an ambiguous relationship with messy things–during dinnertime messes seem to be part of the deal, but sand and seaweed are another thing entirely. The condo was within close walking distance of a pier, and he liked that very much, prefering to walk down to the pier next to the water rather than play in the sand and surf. He sat in my lap on a couple of occasions just barely in the waves, but wouldn’t venture any further in on his own. I carried him into waist-deep water, but one hint of water in his eyes and was all over. When I was a little boy it took me a while to warm up to the beach, so I’m sure he’ll come around.

That turtle was frightening. Thanks for the link…still shuddering when thinking of it hovering over me in that darkened room.
Do you know what? I love you. We found each other, finally. Isn’t that amazing? I look at you and see truth, devotion and promise. We are so blessed.
Sigh. Happiness.
Its position probably had something to do with it as well… It was sort of bearing down on us on the walkway there :)
I love you too, sweetheart. I look at you and I see beauty, companionship and love, among many other things.
Sleep well :)
