in good health and good time

Published on March 1, 2006

It’s beyond beautiful today. It really is March, right?

Dual flight this morning, of the same nature as the one a few Fridays ago, i.e. reviewing everything, analyzing what’s good and what needs more work. By God’s grace today’s flight went much better than the previous. In my instructor’s words, I’m “very, very close.” About the only thing I’ll really emphasize during my solo flight on Friday will be my soft field landings–the one I did today was a clunker (and we practiced another). But everything else was on the money. Encouraging.

Bret officially confirmed today that they’re interested in keeping me around beyond the scope of the project I was hired to do. As he put it, “Everybody thinks you’re a good fit.” Maybe this means they’ll give me a key to the building? I finally got a company e-mail address a few weeks ago. In any case, it raises questions about what I will be doing this fall. The plan as it stands is to quit the job and do A&P (airframe & powerplant) school for a year. The course of study monopolizes the whole day–it’s essentially the same as having a full-time job except that I’m paying for it. However, I’m not locked in. If I don’t take A&P at MAI this fall there’s a local community college that offers the training, albeit not as compressed into a year (but of the same quality). I’d really like to keep the job here–it pays well, I enjoy the work and my coworkers. But whatever He wills. If I do A&P in the fall it may take me a month or two, but I’ll find a job afterward; I know that. Loose hands.

Bret, Troy and I went to Panera for lunch. We should’ve eaten outside. I had a “chocolate pastry” (read: pain-au-chocolat) for dessert… It brought back memories in droves. On almost every family vacation we took in Europe, those were breakfast for me if we could find a boulangerie.

Oh, and the Eclipse 500 just won the 2005 Collier Trophy. I wonder if I can put that on my resumé (“styled seats for Collier Trophy-winning aircraft”)? Hmm.

    Reality Check

Yes, it is, in fact, March. Weird, eh? 78 today… SO strange!

    YAY! Encouragement!

    YAY! Potential long-term job!

YAY! Panera! (I had lunch there too… soooooooo tasty!)

As for posting on your resumé, I think it’s only allowed iff the style of the seat was vital to the winning of the Collier Trophy. But it’s totally fair game for interviews. You could easily throw it into answer any question:

“How are you today?” “Well, I’m almost as good as the day I designed the seats for the Collier Trophy-winning Eclipse 500.”

“Where do you see yourself in five years?” “I’m glad you asked. I look back at the last five years and recall things like having a role in designing the Eclipse 500, which later received the Collier Trophy, and I can only hope that the next five years are more prosperous and exciting.”

: ) Hope you get to enjoy this wonderfully beautiful Wednesday!

From what I’ve heard, Martha Stewart’s line on her Apprentice show before you let someone go was, “You just don’t fit in.” I’m happy to hear Bret thinks you are a keeper.

Looks like tomorrow can be your “make up day” for eating outside.

Thanks for the link to the previous journal entry. I see your view has changed a little bit. It’s funny how opinion changes can sneak up on us…

    You just don’t fit in

Wow, that’s harsh. It sounds like an even more personal rejection than Trump’s notorious, “You’re fired.” Ouch.

Today is the day, I think :)

Hope you’re having a great Thursday!

Good responses to interview questions :) Not subtle, but good, haha.

    Have a great Thursday! *cough*thesis*cough*

    :)

Subtle is so overrated. : )

Thanks man! I need that encouragement (and more so the action on my part that should follow it) or I won’t get to go Friday night!

Enjoy this lovely Thursday! I heard roomers Normal, you know Normal M. Weather, was coming back to town and his estranged cousin Perfect S. Weather was going to leave us again… Maybe he’ll just go away for a day or so.
