I couldn’t be in a bad mood today if I tried to be. Crystal skies, mild temperatures, smooth air all made for a well-nigh perfect flight this morning. I didn’t go anywhere, but tooled around solo in the local area practicing maneuvers in preparation for my license test (“checkride”) in a month or so. The lack of wind made ground reference maneuvers kind of pointless (the idea is to vary one’s rate of turn to take into account the effect of the wind and maintain a consistent course with respect to the ground). I did practice steep turns at 3K ft and did some stalls and slow flight, the latter being particularly satisfying. The second time I entered the maneuver I set the plane up perfectly and didn’t gain any altitude in the process, just hanging in the sky, nose-high, flaps full in, just above stall speed. Did a couple of 90 degree turns in that state. That made the flight.
After all my ranting yesterday about the holiday, I ended up having a fantastic time last night. Although truth be told, the activities could have happened on most any other night of the year and weren’t particularly tied to Valentine’s Day. David and I went to a bar/club downtown and partook of the weekly Latin dance lessons. Meredith, Heather and Chad joined us and we learned how to Merengue, an easy dance. Everybody had a great time. This may become a weekly thing; we’ll see. But if nothing else it was a nice night out on the town.

Glad you have a lovely VD. And that you flew tightly :)
Thank you Em :) Hope your day is going well.
Glad you got to do something fun last night! Sounds like a blast
Sounds like some good times. :)
Glad to hear the holiday didn’t get you down.
And way to go on the stellar flight!
Me too! It was indeed fun. Watching ESotSM is always enjoyable as well :) I’m glad you got to see it.
Thanks Erica :)
I’m glad to hear you’re doing so well, Matt. I can see how these past couple of days would be glorious days for flying.
And i’ve always wondered what the other half did on Valentine’s Day. I’m not very good at observing holidays, but managed to pull something romantic out of my arse at the last moment. Being spontaneously romantic can have it’s challenges, but being romantic over the course of years gets downright difficult sometimes. (At least if you don’t want to do the same ol generic “romantic” stuff every year. Personally i can’t stand romantic conformity…unless that’s just part of who you are to begin with or it means something especially significant to your significant other.) Anyways, i’m rambling…
So Matt Latin dancing, eh? Hm. I won’t say that’s no you, but it’s an image of you that doesn’t exactly spring into my mind. Sounds like a blast. Hope you’re doing well and that things go well for both you and your new roommate.
Cheers!
