I could never start smoking. Not because I wouldn’t take to it, but because I’d like it too much. I already fancy the smell in small, isolated doses, and it’s exactly the sort of activity with the chops to become a staple of my existence, like hummus or Wikipedia or preferring to drink Coke out of an aluminum can. Can’t explain it any more rationally than that, just know that I can’t start doing it.
On the other hand, re-pierce my ear, move to a Parisian suburb, get a subscription to Paris Match, grow out my hair a little bit, develop a fondness for Gauloises and my Eurodork conversion is complete. Which I would actually like very much.
Oh, I’m having surgery on my finger tomorrow, what joy is mine. Evidently I did a real bang-up job breaking this thing–two places and tore a ligament too. It’s the $350 deductible that’s the real shot, though. But at least that’s all it is. And the procedure’s outpatient and (in theory) 45 minutes. Then after the pain meds kick in I can get back to operating my backhoes and dumptrucks, huzzah!

Good luck w/ the surgery! I’m glad you’re getting that fixed.
And no amount of hiding behind a smokescreen of filterless Gauloises (or Gitanes!) will turn you into a Eurodork if you’re still a fan of GWB.
:-P
piiiieeeerrrccceeee youurrrrrr eeeaaarrrrrr
Oh God, Everything makes me miss smoking. I was reading Salinger this weekend and his books are chock full of chain-smoking characters and it makes me miss the habit so much that I can, like, feel the cigarette between my fingers. It’s such an amazing (and deadly!) habit.
Prayers for the surgery. How TUFF.
How about an “open-minded Eurodork?” Can I still apply for that title?
:D
no can do…
Going to a nice Baptist college where they frown on that sort of thing. I assume. Maybe I should ask, eh? :)
Thanks for your prayers, Em. 2 p.m. tomorrow… Whee.
Seriously, don’t start smoking. It’s very hard to quit.
Good luck on your surgery! I hope everything goes well.
And I couldn´t smoke because I can´t STAND the smell of it. Being in Europe is a pain because there are barely any places that have no-smoking and, well, that bothers me too much.
Glad you´re feeling better :)

You know I have a pack of cigarettes that have been in my desk for about six months… oh wait maybe I shouldn’t have said that!
YAY for the re ear piercing but don’t forget the lessons of long hair vs. you from your collage days… pleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaassssssssseeeeeeeee.
What are gauloises?
Pain meds… who wants to smoke when there are pain meds… REALLY!
I don’t intend to. But as a livejournaler I am required to share a certain percentage of the cockamamy ideas that cross my mind. So I’m back up to quota :)
Thanks :) I hope so too. I don’t want to remember a thing, either…
So…you’re not enjoying the haze of cigarette smoke and diesel fuses that envelops every major city in Europe? :)
Of course that begs the question: Have you smoked any of ’em?
The lessons of long hair. Not recalling any. Except that it took a long time to dry and was fun to ‘fro up.
Gauloises are very potent, very stinky French cigarettes favored by many tragically bohemian French artists. And George Orwell. Go figure.
Screw the pain meds–at this point I just want some FOOD. Haven’t been able to eat since midnight last night and I won’t be able to until later this afternoon. No good. I NEED breakfast.

ha ha… ok sadly yes I have smoked some of them.
the lesson was don’t do it… don’t ‘fro up… it’s not good for you…
but growing your hair out a bit would be fine… as if my aproval is needed! My inner dictator stricks again!!
I’m in the red at the moment.
