Dialogue snippet from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0112130\/\">old mini-series<\/a> (and the book!):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Mr. Darcy<\/b>: I have not the talent which some possess of conversing easily with strangers.<br \/>\n<b>Elizabeth<\/b> (while playing piano forte): I do not play this instrument so well as I should wish to, but I always supposed that to be my own fault, because I would not take the trouble of practicing it.<br \/>\n<b>Mr. Darcy<\/b>: You are perfectly right.  You have employed your time much better.  No one admitted to the privilege of hearing you can think anything wanting.  We neither of us perform to strangers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Perfect.  Flawless.  Musical.  And now the equivalent from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0414387\/\">new movie<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Mr. Darcy<\/b>: I have not the talent of conversing easily with people I have never met before.<br \/>\n<b>Elizabeth<\/b>: Perhaps you should practice.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It makes me cringe.  In shortening the film from the 6-hour running time of the mini-series to a more palatable 2-and-a-half hour movie time, do they have to remove the best dialogue?  And Hollywood-ize the rest of it?  Furthermore, everybody just seems too young.  Keira Knightley is hugely miscast.
