Another update from the road… We’re in Paris now, at the Ransom’s house (the family who is very generously putting us up for the nights we’ll be here). It’s a gorgeous house in the Parisian suburb of Garches, just to the west of the city and south of La D\u00e9fense. Quiet street, cool breezes, creaky stairway. Aaron, Donald, and I are on the top floor and the roof is gabled, so our ceiling is pointed at the top and very tall. It also happens to have windows in it and just the right height for me to stand and rest my arms on, and I did for a good half-hour, just feeling the Parisian night breeze and listening to the trees rustle. It’s in moments like that that my expectations of travel don’t let me down–for a few brief minutes it’s all I want it to be, and more.<\/p>\n
Tomorrow’s agenda in Paris has yet to be finalized, something we’ll all do over breakfast. I think I’m going to run down the local boulangerie (bakery) and buy some pain au chocolat<\/i> (like a croissant with chocolate in the middle) and a baguette or two for the road. We’ll see.<\/p>\n
Sleep in London was beyond restful last night. I made it a point to stay up as long as possible, to de-jetlag as soon as we could, and we actually made it to about 10:30 before we conked out. I woke up first, wonder of wonders, at about 8-8:30 the next morning, and we ventured downstairs for a full English breakfast while listening to the morning news on the radio. We walked around a bit for the rest of the morning through local parks and ducked into the Science Museum. Our train through the Chunnel left at 3, and was amazingly smooth and quick. The stage through the tunnel itself only takes about twenty minutes, and then you’re back topside again, only in France :o) Pulled into the station, and amid a bit of difficulty, secured the car reservation, bought some flowers for Mrs. Ransom, got a bit to eat, and actually made in on the roads out of Paris and found their house successfully.<\/p>\n
That’s the Reader’s Digest version… I’m going to bed soon and want to rest up for tomorrow. Somehow I think I might end up being the wake up call for everyone else again. After enough consecutive nights of 3-4 hours of sleep, anything over 6 or so is relished.<\/p>\n
