Wacky things happen at the Gazette in the waning hours of the Friday workday, when we’re all highly dependent on caffeine to make it home, never mind the fact that the anticipation of the weekend to come would probably serve to motivate us through to 5 o’clock.<\/p>\n

The most oft-targeted personality on campus for our commentaries is obviously our beloved Chancellor, James Moeser, whose picture appears in the paper with a noticeable regularity on account of the number of university functions he attends. We’ve taken to calling him “Da Meeze” with the same inflection spoken by the members of SNL’s Chicago Superfans when referencing “Da Bulls” or “Da Bears.” As far as I know it’s an appelation limited to Gazette office usage; I’ve not heard it outside this room.<\/p>\n

He has a knack for appearing so many photographs around campus that it’s hard not to poke fun at one or two, especially the more, shall we say, “unfortunate” shots. Scott, our editor, was all good and ready to run this one<\/a> before I pointed out that the Meeze was posturing during his speech with a distinctly Nazi-esque gesture. We promptly yanked it in favor of another, but the discussion continued on the subject of the now-designated Herr Meeze. Susan, the assistant editor, speculated that perhaps he wasn’t saluting at all, but attempting to levitate a portion of the wall with some latent Jedi-ish telekinetic ability. That theory received favorable reviews from Scott and myself, and I set about constructing a depiction of the actual event. The results<\/a> were amusing, especially if you switch back and forth between the images and repeat to yourself, “Wall goes up. Wall goes down. Wall goes up…” and so on and so forth. I love Photoshop.<\/p>\n
