Tonight was the youth group’s periodic “fun night,” and we decided to do sort of a multi-game olympiad, with the parents, no less. Most of the chairs were cleared out of the sanctuary and we set up games in there as well as in the foyer. We had chair soccer, the shoe relay, and the spoon and string game (where the team members line up next to one another and have to pull a spoon with a string attached through an article of their clothing as fast as they can, so that all members of a team are strung together in the end). We also had the marshmallow blow, where team members are given points commensurate to how far they can blow a little marshmallow out of their nose, the creamed whistle (where you have to dig a whistle out of a plate of whipped cream and blow it), and my personal brainchild, the rat race–a collection of tables arranged so as to form two juxtaposed mazes, covered with plastic sheeting, and that the contestants had to navigate on their hands and knees blindfolded. I think it was a success. I was helped out with chair soccer, chasing down the ball and tossing in back into the field of play. It was an incredibly active game, and it got vicious at times–the competitive juices were definitely flowing and some of the parents (really even more so than most of the kids) really got into it. But it was fun. And now for bed.<\/p>\n
Anybody want to go to the exhibit on the art of flight at the NC Museum of Art tomorrow afternoon? It’s the last day and I have two tickets. We can get Krispy Kreme donuts afterwards downtown or go record shopping at Schoolkids.
